    Question Freeze Pistachios??

Bought a four pound bag of roasted pistachios at Costco yesterday to make the broccoli salad. What is the best way to store them? I freeze walnuts and almonds. These are still in the shell.

Could you take them out of the shell and then freeze them ?? I know, 4 pounds is a lot to shell. Put them in the fridge and shell a little at a time ?? I don't know, I am just thinking out loud. All I know is that nuts go bad quickly just kept in the pantry.

I know. They are sooo good when they are fresh. Seems like I should be able to freeze them as I do with the other nuts, just not sure. DIdn't know if the fridge would dry them out. Maybe there is a pistachio council or something that I could ask. Thanks.

    Default Pistachio Commission

There is one in California. Said to store in airtight container as they draw moisture from the air. Also says they can be stored for a year in the fridge or freezer. Who knew?

Aren't you glad you can always google for information. Now we know. So they can be stored with their shells on ?

I wondered that, too. Someone from work gave dh pecans last year, and I had several bags of shelled ones already, so didn't want to fool with shelling them. Wondered if you could just freeze them??

    Default Freezing nuts.

I keep pistachios in the freezer in a jar. In fact I keep all my nuts in the freezer. Some are in jars and others in plastic bags. I have not shelled my pistachios.

I Once Sent Back Pecans Because They Were Stale. The Co. Sent Me Back A Replacement Bag And Instructions To Keep Them In The Freezer. They Said That Was What They Did With All Thier Nuts Until They Were Ready To Be Sold. I Do That Now And Have Never Had A Problem. The Oils In The Nuts Also Help Them To Spoil And Be Come Rancid.

Dh was helping me make the broccoli salad tonight. Well, he noticed the recipe called for cashews not pistachios! I am losing it. Put in some pistachios and sliced almonds - still pretty good.
