    Default Do turtles eat ducks???

We have a pond in the middle of all the buildings at work. There is no access to it for animals unless they fly in or they were put in by the company. Anyway, a mama duck had 5 litttle babies following her around. Then one day, she had just 3 left. A co worker claims that one of the turtles in the pond ate them. I would believe her if the turtles were snapping turtles and not normal water turtles. I insisted that one of the huge cranes that like to come and eat by the water ate them. I've never heard of normal turtles eating anything big like a baby duck. What do you all think happened?

I know when I raised chickens/ducks I had an occassional snake make it into their and eat one. I knew this b/c the snake, after swallowing the baby bird would also be stuck in the cage and couldn't get out.

I have never heard of turtles eating babie ducks.

a woman that I work with says that turtles got her ducks. I know that a lot of them had their feet bitten off by turtles. I don't know what kind of turtle though. Just regular turtles are vegetarians arent they

I can't even imagine what happened to the baby ducks. I really doubt that turtles would eat them though. Snakes, yes, but not turtles.

They might not have killed them but if the ducklets died they might eat the carrion

there are a number of birds that will eat small animals. Are there any hawks or owls in your area?

Yes turtles will eat the baby ducks. We watch our babies disappear every year at the lake. I stood on the dock one day and watched a turtle grab a baby by the leg.

What size turtle are we talking here? The little turtles I see couldn't open their mouth wide enough to eat anything more then a blade of grass, never mind a duckling. ???
