    Default Oxiclean for carpet?

Have you ever tried to use oxiclean in a carpet shampooer? I might give it a whirl today, just wondering if anybody else has tried it. It says that it can be used as a carpet stain remover if mixed with water. It's supposed to be colorfast. I think I'll dissolve it really well and put it in the shampooer.

I had my living room carpet cleaned ... a local company was running a good special that ended up costing me a few pennies LESS than I'd have paid for the rental machine and the cleaning solutions... and they did a FABULOUS job!

The owner of the company told me NOT to use the cleaners they sell w/ the rental machines, but that OxyClean was a much better choice!

Thanks, Luvs! I'll post an update in a couple of hours. I have my own shampooer and it's ready to go, I was just waiting for the last kid to leave for school!

It worked wonderfully! I used the tub of laundry oxiclean that I got from Sam's. 4oz scoop of the powder for every 24 oz of water. I used really hot water and made sure that the powder was completely dissolved before putting the mixture into the shampooer. My tub is spelled oxiclean, but I know that there is also an oxyclean. I don't know if they are different brands or different products. My house has a fresh smell, but not really the clean smell that you get with the actual carpet shampoo. I will definitely be using this from now on, much cheaper than the shampoo.

Do the carpet cleaners that you buy getthe carpet as clean as when you have the carpets done professionally? We only have carpet in the bedrooms and I was wondering if it's worth buying a machine and what kind of machine would anyone recommend??

I have a Hoover Steam Vac. Apparently, it worked great. In four years, I've never used it. SIL has used it. Friend has used it. DH had it for about a year because one of the elderly dogs has accidents in the house. He just told me the main hose broke off right where it attaches to the housing unit and it can't be fixed/replaced.

Ang, you can go to a hardware store and get a new hose. I left mine out on the garage one year and it froze and the hose cracked. DH was able to fix it.

Janni, I have 2 of them. I have a Hoover SteamVac and a Bissel Power Steamer. I like the Hoover the best. I only have carpet in my living room and my office. I clean them 3-4 times a year. The carpet is 14 yrs old, and honestly it looks like new. Both machines were under $300. The Hoover is 8 yrs old and the Bissell 1 yr old.

No, I don't really collect carpet cleaners. My parents had a flooded basement last June. I went to buy shop vacs or anything I could find that would extract water. That's how I ended up with the bissell. Didn't want you all to think I'm crazy! LOL

Oops...wanted to add....the hoover comes with lots of attachements. DH has used it to shampoo the vehicles and all the upholstery. It also has a steamer attachement that I've used on window coverings and to remove wall paper. Well worth the money.
