Default How soggy is tres leches cake?

I think I'm going to make one in addition to ds bday cake. Anyone think people will think this cake is 'weird' and need a required taste?

Well here's the recipe I'm going to use. My friend Alicia from Mexico says this cake is to die for and very traditional down there. Of course I have to go for out of this country traditional lol! My MIL will prob roll her eyes at me like always. :P

Thanks, I'm going to have to try this, too. So many recipes, so little time.

Nu could probably answer this question for you. She made it recently.
I have to tell you that I am absolutely impressed with the Flan Cake and think it is wonderful.
Next cake to try will be the tres leches. Nu has wonderful cake taste buds and I will follow her on these cakes....
Have you made time to listen to the birds today........

I made it last weekend. Used The Pioneer Woman's recipe. Not soggy at all. I wondered about that myself. DS saw Alton Brown make one, he used a regular box cake mix and used all of the milk mixture, and let it set over night. PW's cake is a lighter cake and you use all but 1 cup of the milk mixture. I kept the other cup for "just in case" didnt' need it. I will definately make again, but will add some sliced stawberries. It's very good, but needs a little sompin-sompin, you know what I mean? She put marchino (sp?) cherries on her cake.

Maybe I will do strawberries too. I actually had thought of that. As traditional as the cherries are it's not quite the look I was going for lol. I love those little cherries tho. Thanks Nu. I know when my family goes to a bday party they are looking for CAKE not something goofy. I always have to go off the beaten path. Dh says I shouldn't make this or atleast say it in english because we are already doing a Mexican/Spanish food buffet. LOL. Tacos, nachos, fajitas, salsas, taco dip and flautas. I know taco dip isn't spanish, but u know what I mean. It doesn't help that my little guy looks ethinc hee hee. He gets that from me. Dh says people are going to think it's like a baby quince! JK!

I have never made it myself, but I have eaten more then my share. My girlfriend makes her cake from scratch and it is not soggy at all. And she does not use cherries or strawberries. Tres Leches Cake is very popular here in SA.

Alicia actually told me it's best to sit over night in the milky goodness so I made it up and will frost it in the morning with a basic heavy cream whipped topping. I have raspberries in my freezer that I will use to garnish if anyone wants fruit. No strawberries. I better get to bed! Up early with lots to do.
