Default Will cherries ripen after they are picked?

I bought like 3 lbs. of bing cherries at the store this evening and even when I was looking at them in the store they didn't seem very ripe. I just started eating some and they are rock hard. Yuck! Will they ripen over time or are they a lost cause? Should I leave them out on the counter over night? If they don't ripen what the heck should I do with them? Thanks!

*Oh, and I realize they came from WA here to WI so that makes me even more nervous. Like were they green when they were picked or what?!

    I googled and found this.

Yes they will ripen to some degree. Bring them in & dry them out. The green will never make it but the yellow, rose to red will ripen.

Scatter them in a thin layer & keep them at room temperature. Before you know it you will be snacking.

Why thank ya. I did leave them out over night that first night and did notice a slight differnce the next day. I shoud have done it longer. I had to go ahead and buy more cherries. The Rainiers were ready and I had to have some! The ones at home were just plain ole Bing. The Rainiers were to die for. Even the hubbs who hates cherries liked them.
