    Default California Mandarin Oranges

I have search hours looking for Mandarin Oranges grown/canned in the USA.
Food processed in China gives me the willies. I found a "Native Forest" brand which is USDA organic and vastly better, but it is still a product of China(and three times the price of other Chinese m. oranges). Does anyone know if there is such a thing?

During my reading, I read that the usual M.O. are soaked in lye to remove the membrane and then repeatedly in water to rinse off the lye. UCK?

I just learned something here. I had NO idea that madarin oranged were soaked in lye? then rinsed off many times... ewww. (but I guess it works). I don't buy canned mandarin oranges.. I'll just stick to the once a year treat of clemetines (aka mandarin)... as they are only sold in my area from Nov until late Jan... in fact I picked up another bag at Sam's a few days ago.. I LOVE THEM..

Why don't you use fresh MO's? They're soooo much better than canned!

Dole also makes mandarin oranges in little cups, in refrigerated section in produce dept in my store. I often buy those cups to use making smoothies ( make one once a day to get down those stupid meds!) Usually when they are on sale for $1.00 plus use coupon off

I will have to check it out- I have seen them before, but I know Dole canned Mandarin oranges are also from China. I see Dole also has a 5 serving plastic jar of oranges in juice, but can't seem to find out where it is produced. LOL.
