Thread: German Chocolate Caramel Bars

I am not sure where I saw it but someone posted a recipe for I think a caramel bar and it used a German chocolate cake mix. I remember her saying someone had won a prize with her recipe. I thought I had it bookmarked but can't find it. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Caramel Brownies

1 bag caramels
2/3 c. evaporated milk, divided
1 pkg. german chocolate cake mix
3/4 c. butter, melted
1 c. chocolate chips

Mix together cake mix, 1/3 c. evaporated milk and butter. Put half in a 9x13 pan. Bake for 6-8 minutes at 350 degrees. Melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk. Sprinkle 1 c. (6 oz.) chocolate chips over baked mixture; then spread caramel mixture and dot remaining half of cake mixture on top. Bake another 15-20 minutes. Do not overbake.

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method

80 light caramels
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 package German chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup margarine -- softened
1/3 cup evaporated milk
1 cup nuts -- chopped
1 cup chocolate chips


Melt caramels and 1/2 cup evaporated milk and set aside. Combine cake mix,
margarine, and milk. Press half of mixture into a 9x13 inch pan. Bake at
350 degrees for 6 minutes.

Sprinkle nuts and chocolate chips over pan mixture. Place remaining
mixture over chips and bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.

You can also do the same thing using a brownie mix.
