Thread: beer butt chicken in the roaster??

Is it possible to make Beer Butt Chicken (drunken chicken) for the roaster?

My husband wants me to add like a medley of vegetables in with it. Corn, carrots, green beans, onions, mushrooms.
But I don't know if it's possible to make it in the roaster pan, instead of on the grill or in the oven.

I tried looking online, but I only found the stands that chickens are on and not the recipes for them to be in the roaster pan.

I am ORDERED (by my children) to make Beer Butt Chicken once a week! I make it in the oven every time.
Place half can of beer in roaster pan. Clean / pat dry / rub chicken with seasonings. I place a few thin pats of butter under the skin on the breast for extra moistture. Fold in wings and perch chicken on can. Lower your racks in oven, place chicken in 425 preheated oven. Roast 30mins at 425, then lower to 350. (I sometimes just leave it at 425, and its fine!).
Difference is I add about 2cups of chicken broth the the pan (to make a gravy). I guess you can roast the veggies, remove from pan, and THEN add the broth. Im sure it will be AWESOME! Let me know what time to come for sinner

My roaster doesn't have any racks to lower. It just has a large pan. I make my holiday meats in there, so that I can have the oven for everything else. But no racks.

Maybe it's not possible to make it in the electric roaster, I don't know.

are you talking about a roaster where the chicken turns on its side? Like on a spit?
Maybe try placing some beer in the drip pan to keep it moist? You obviously cant place a can in the chcken if the chicken is roasting sideways.

No, it's not a spit and doesn't rotate and that like with a rotissere (sp?).

You do have to lay the meat on its side, but I didn't know if you could just set the chicken upride so that they're standing on the chicken stands.

I tried finding a picture of it, but none of the copy and paste links work. From what I gathered, some may call it an electric turkey roaster oven.

Are you talking about a Nesco oven? I think the only way you will know is try it. I have one that is a 18 quart and mine does have a rack with it. I would use the same temps you use in the oven as this just like an oven. It is a roaster pan so just give it a try. It should come out close. Good luck!

I looked it up, as I never heard that brand before. And, yes, that's exactly what I have. Well, except mine is GE, but it's still the same thing. That's what I'm trying to figure out for. I made in there before, but it took like nearly 8 hours to cook the darn thing. He wants me to make it in the roaster with the vegetables, even though I told him that all the recipes call for the oven or the grill. Naturally, he isn't listening. So, I told him that I'd look on here to see if someone has a recipe for it. Maybe it needs to be on a higher temp when it's on the roaster. The lid sure isn't going to stay on and I covered both chickens with a foil and did set the lid on there.

Cue, here's the idea! Grab a six or two and send the boys out for a round of golf, fishing, whatever. Promice the dinner of the century when they get back, and use the grill. Have ready in the sink for their arrival back home the roaster and it's lid. Okay, you'll have to grease it up and pour stuff in it. But like you said, they never listen! Good luck, Laura
