First day of school Aug. 16th

That is way early for Az. we usually are in late Aug. DD fall semester is Aug 19th and think that is early too. What is going on? Maybe the teachers want to get it done before the heat, but Aug is really hot too. They should be done early May since they are starting this early.

I think that's when school starts here also. But it's been like that for several years. I remember my kids would start school after Labor Days. I don't think it has anything to do with the heat / temps etc. all the schools here in town have A/C. Makes no difference what the outside temp is. I know by law there are a certain amount of teaching days in each semester. What has changed is that we now have a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week spring break etc. So with more time off, in order to get your teaching days in , you either have to start earlier or go longer, anyway that's how it is here in the SA area. Then there are the make up days , to make up for the days schools close down because of bad weather. Now we don't have too many of those here in SA.

We start on the 16th as well. The public schools here start August 12.

You must get put earlier then us, cause we don't go back until sept. 1. But then again we didn't get out until june 11.

Teachers here report on Aug 11. I am so not ready, yet. Need to spend some time in my classroom. Kids come for a half day Aug 18.

My grandkids here start this Monday August 2---they go to a charter school. But its because they now get so many more 2 week breaks during the school year! I am not sure this is such a good idea but they like it this way!!!

we start aug 18th but the public school dosen't start until august 25th. the earlier the better I say!!!!
