    Thumbs up Rick's Special Buttercream Frosting

    Rick's Special Buttercream Frosting

    SUBMITTED BY: Rick Mazzuca (AllRecipes)

    2 cups shortening
    8 cups confectioners' sugar
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    1 cup heavy whipping cream

    In a mixing bowl, cream shortening until fluffy. Add sugar, and continue creaming until well blended.
    Add salt, vanilla, and 6 ounces whipping cream. Blend on low speed until moistened. Add additional 2 ounces whipping cream if necessary. Beat at high speed until frosting is fluffy.

    BTW - this recipe makes a ton of frosting, I would cut it in half for a regular sized cake.

    Just an aside here....my sister went to The Magnolia Bakery in NYC. She said they have the BEST frosting. Apparently they have like 8-10 Kitchen Aid mixers going at all times full of buttercream frosting. They told her the secret was beating it for like 20 minutes.

    She made some for cupcakes over Christmas and I must say, it was the BEST and fluffiest frosting!

    So...REALLY beat your ingredients!

    And Bean thanks for recipe ...for some reason cream cheese frosting doesnt hit the spot with me like it used to lol

    Great tip Moo! I have another recipe like this from my Grandmother. I will dig it up and see how it compares to this one. I haven't made her recipe in years & years.
