  • update on my DD

I am sorry for not posting this sooner but I have been so discusted and frustrated and depressed over all of this. As you know my daughter has had an upper right side abdomen pain since the first part of February. We have done blood tests, urine tests, ultrasound hylascan, and a catscan with everything coming back normal. In the meantime she is still hurting and now the pain spikes either up towards her chest or down towards her belly. Her eating is not better and she always looks so worn out and pale. So on the 29th of April took her to the gastrologist and he scheduled her for an endoscope on the 19th. I just laughed and said to myself "please yes lets put this out 3 more weeks cause she is not suffering enough." None of her friends come visit her but one calls her or text her once in awhile. On her myspace she wrote a blog and it made me cry. She talks about how scared she is and how she crys when she is alone cause she hurts and is scared. I almost started to cry. She is getting so depressed and frustrated. Her 16th birthday is tomorrow and for Friday she has only invited 2 friends to come over for the party. I told her she would want a big sweet sixteen party. She is so depressed she doesn't want one. I have her best friend trying to get some of her guy friends to come crash her party and cheer her up. I hope once she is better we can give her a real sweet sixteen party this summer. Please keep her in your prayers and pray that this endoscope will discover her problems and we can then fix it. Thanks for all your support.

Milky, glad you updated us on her problems. It must be so hard not knowing what is causing this. She really has been threw so much. Something has to give, you have done so much to try to find an answer. I know all of you are scared with not knowing, try to at least have a wonderful party for her. 16yrs they are so excited & want their dr. lic and dating the boys. It's a wonderful time for the teens hope that you do not give up & find out what the heck is going on. Keep trying. Maybe someone on the board can help. I will pray for your family.

Debbie, I am so sorry she isn't feeling well. And that the doctors are not more in a hurry to find out what is wrong.
I would suggest, if possible, to take her to the ER. Sometimes you can get all the tests done immediately.

Is there anything we can do for her for her 16th? Maybe send her an e-card? Try to lift her spirits up a bit?

I am so very sorry, and you all will be in my prayers. I cant imagine having pain and fear to deal with along with all the normal things a teenager grapples with. Please let us know on the 19th what came of her test!

Oh, how frustrating and scary for you and your family! Its enough to want to go into the doctor's office and start yelling!
Pouncermom gave an excellent suggestion. I'm sure there are tons of people on here who would be willing to send an e-card to your dd. Let us know! Hugs!

It is soooooo hard to watch your children suffer. Every time one of mine was sick I would always rather have been sick myself. I hope you get some kind of information soon. I am sure that is so hard on her. Sure...if we can do anything to cheer her up let us know.

So sorry to hear what your daughter is going through. Isn't there any way they can give her an earlier date for the endoscopy? Maybe your primary physician could help or you could ask to be put on a list for cancellations.

When I was at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, there was a girl - about 16- who had symptoms that nobody could find a cause for. She said this was her last chance. You may want to think about going to Mayo or a University hospital. you can sign her up for Mayo online. They called me within about 20 minutes. You don't need a referral. Rochester is a nice little town. Seems all of the motels have free shuttle service so you don't have to stay downtown. They have so many specialists and all of the machines for all of the tests. I checked with my insurance - Blue Cross- and I was covered there. The folks are so caring and don't treat you like a number.

Has she tried a very low fat diet to see if it helps? If she tried it for a week or two and had an improvement that would tell the Dr's something. How many different doctors has she been to? Time for more opinions, I think.

How bad is the pain, it moderate or severe? When you do a search for upper right abdomainal pain on the internet there are a few lists of causes. There is a lot more in the lists other than liver and gall bladder, which I'm sure they checked already. Make a list and tell the Dr to look it over and see if he could be missing something. That is what I would do.

One more thought - a food intolerance? Gluten maybe. Celiac disease? My DD had her gall bladder out and symptoms persist. I think it is the gluten.

That was my thought too, that it could be a food problem.

Another thought, and I'm trying to be helpful, could it be psychological? You said she's been depressed and the tests so far have been negative. Its funny what the mind can do to your physical well being. If it were my child, I would check into that possibility.
Being a teen is so stressful anyway & having all those tests is no fun either.

Wishing you both the best. Thanks for the update.
