What makes your garden grow?

Years ago I heard that birth control pills were good for houseplants, so, after I had my tubes tied, I spent the next couple of years going around distributing the leftover birth control pills to my houseplants. LOL

Don't really remember if I could tell any difference or not.

What "strange" things have you popped in your houseplants? And did/does it work?

So far only indoor plant I have had luck with are bamboo plants.. Just keep em full of water and tada!!! it grows!!

My friend swore up and down on watering her plants with dishwater. I guess the detergent helps the plants. thinking back now.. I would water my one plant with dish water that grew until one day hubby decided to untangle it.. it died shortly after.

I used to a looong time ago keep a jar of egg shells and water underneath my sink for my plants ...cant recall if it worked either been that long ago!

Also heard cigg ashes were good for house plants and did that for a long time with no results.

I use room temp water now and fertilizer stickes and in the spring my african violets get their fertilizer. I now know that sun, water and some fert. once in awhile is all my plants need LOL

I dont have any house plants, my cats like to eat them. I do put blood meal on my garden though to keep ground hogs and rabbits out. I never heard of the birth controll thing (thats why I have so many kids)

My outdoor garden gets cow manure each year.

I heard used coffee grounds are good for plants too.

My outside garden always got manure too, one year we used horse manure and it worked just as good.

So does chicken manure.

You have to be carefull with chicken manure though, it can burn the plants if you use to much.

Coffee grounds are great. Starbucks give bags of used coffee grounds away for the asking.

My grocer....I have such a brown thumb!

My Mom gave me a Jade plant that she had for over 22 years....I killed it in a month.

Thanks for telling us.. I'll be sure to ask for some the next time I'm there. I knew they were good for plants.
