Why do people have to be that way??

Why do people have to be nasty and talk tough, and cuss all the time? I just don't get it. I am 43 years old, and my parents raised us to not use those kind of vulgar terms. I know most of the world talks that way now, but why? Does it make them sound important, or in authority? For example, in our break room at work, there were some new employees talking, they were women in their early 20's, and one woman very loudly said, 'Oh yeah! I saw her, and I did not like her, so I punched her right in the face." Then she went on to say that if anyone even looked at her or looked at her cross eyed, they would get the same thing. The other women she were sitting with nodded their heads in agreement.

My best friend used to cuss like a drunken sailor when we were younger, but she has since stopped because she is a mom now, and she does not want to set a bad example. But, what of the parents who don't care? I have heard many parents out cussing at their kids using the f word and worse in their presence, and then they wonder why their kids turn out rotten.

RW so funny you posted about this I have noticed the same thing recently but at the stores these girls talk trash and it sounds soooo stupid and very pointless some never seem to grow up!!!!!

You cant explain insanity, or ignorance. The person who claimed to have punched someone in the face - I seriously doubt that happened because more than likely she would have been sitting in jail rather than in your breakroom. I would have recognized it as someone who has some insecurity issues who wanted to "sound" threatening to the others. It is so hard working with ignorant and immature people!

I grew up in a Christian household where cussing was very taboo, and I dont think I ever said a cuss word until I was an adult and living away from home. And I never say the "F" word. My kids are grown now and live on their own and do what they want, but I still will not allow them to curse around me. 2 of them have slipped and said the "F" word around me and I had to embarrass them by telling them "Save that kind of talk for your friends...I dont care how old you are...dont you EVER say that word in the presence of your mother again".

Maybe they are doing it because that's what they heard their parents say when they were growing up.

We were pretty free w/ our language in front of the kids, but the "F" word is NOT allowed. I kept telling the kids that if they were allowed to use it, they'd have no discretion and it would pop out all the time and that was unacceptable. Can't tell you how many times they've been w/ friends in my company and said, "Don't say the 'F' word... my mom doesn't allow it."

And can you IMAGINE the grief they give me for the one or 2 times I've said it by accident when I'm telling a story???

I'm 52 and grew up with cussing parents. My dad was Russian and Mom was Polish, so tempers always flaired up in the house. When my daughter was born, I made sure she wouldn't grow up hearing cuss words..But then school started, and she learned more cuss words there than in my household.. And she still cusses like a "drunken sailor"... I do have to admit, I have a potty mouth myself. But I earned it at my age..!

Why can't they make movies without using bad language? They don't need to put all that in there to make a good movie. In fact if a movie has a bunch of cussing in it I turn it off.

Probably same reason they can't seem to make a movie without nudity in some form. Claim it's "essential" to the story & done "artfully", to which I say "Bull"! Even "Oh, God" was forbidden in my house growing up. Absolutely cannot stand the "F" word.

I'm with you I hate foul language. I can remember the first time I said shit, I was 21 I think my Dad was ready to kill me. And Oh God is taking the Lord's name in vain.

i taught my children not to cuss around adults..it's a sign of disrespect..so my dh and i are very careful not to cuss around them..well today they are in their teens..i know when they are around thier friends they will cuss..but are careful around grown-ups..so my mil comes down for a few days and she is swearing like a sailor..her mouth was horrible..my ds asked me why he can't cuss and grandma can..can't remember what my response was..but my mil turned around and gave me a dirty look..

I have to say that when I worked around all men I picked up the sailor's mouth. Once you use it, it really is hard not to. To this day I sometimes catch myself using some of the words. However, my children know that that they do as I say and not as I do.

I don't sit around talking with my girlfriends about punching people though, I find that rather bizarre!

I think it is STRESS, Seens everyone is trying to do so much in a 24 hour day taking care of family, elderly parents, no sleep,working, shopping, gas prices, mortgage problems, job problems.

I had a neighbor flip out on me the other day over something minor. I just looked at her, she has 5 kids all under 8 years old and one is an infant. I dont think shes even 30 years old. I felt some compassion for her even while she was calling me a F-word B-word.

I live in a condo complex and I rarely talk to any of my neighbores anymore, no one is friendly .no one cares. Its very depressing I've stopped trying to make friends with anyone anymore. Last person I waved Hello to gave me "the middle finger" in return.

We stopped going to church the people there were unfriendy, mean, back stabbing, in CHURCH ?????? I could not believe it.

My mom taught me the old saying "if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all"

Bernie, I am sorry you are so sad. It is sad too that people that go to church are backstabbers too. Unfortunately, that can happen anywhere. Maybe you can find a church that someone you know, and like, goes to. We're not perfect. Like my bumper sticker says, Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven.

probably cause they were raised by there friend's not there parent's and were never taught any kind of respect. and now that they don't respect there selves why respect anyone.

Wow. This is weird. I just got back from Walmart, and while I was in the check out lane, my Cashier and the one next to her were "bantering" back and forth. What was funny to me..... Was that my cashier was a young black girl, and the one next to her was a young white girl. The longer they chatted, the more the young white girl sounded like she was fresh from the Ghetto! Do you know what I'm saying? I see that a lot. I don't know why the white girls try so hard to sound like "Sista's" from the Ghetto!! It is so ridiculous, I wish they could hear themselves and see themselves from the outside... AND - I think it's kind of insulting to the real "Sista's", you know, like they are mocking them....
