That's a tough one. I don't think that I even know anyone that's been married 50 yrs. Sad, huh?

What personal things do you know about them? Interests? Hobbies? That sort of thing>

She is my Mom's 1st cousin and has been a school teacher for 22 years. He worked at Vanity Fair's print shop. They are very simple people from head to toe.

      Any help is appreciated.

It's certainly nothing practical, but I love crystal dinner bells; you could probably find one that could be engraved.

Another thing I like to do is to buy an appropriate Revere style bowl (in this case gold colored), and have a florist arrange dried flowers in it. I like Revere style because it's sets low and isn't overly large.

How about a flowering potted plant? Or a gift certificate for a local restaurant?

What about something personalized? Brass Door Knocker? Check out Things Remembered.
Maybe a mantel clock? A Precious Moments figurine?

Go to your local Craft mall and check out what they have. I always find different, unique items there...

I just went to my boss' 25th anniversary and I gave them a card and made a donation to Susan B. Komen foundation. But there is always a cause that needs $... and at 50 years what do they really need??

I was at my aunt and uncle's 50th wedding anniversary party recently and they received everything from money (there was a "money tree" too) to a nice dress watch and diamond necklace, to cuff links and earrings to gift certificates for their favorite stores to shop for clothing, groceries, household items, home improvement, their favorite restaurants, etc. Again, money is ALWAYS appreciated as well those VISA gift cards (which can be used for anything, anywhere) in this day of rising gas prices, groceries and utilities.

It's nice to be personal, but practical is better in these times in my honest opinion. I am not a person who is into the knick-knack stuff that you have to dust off or that my kids would be stuck packing away in boxes when I die wondering what in blazes to do with the stuff...........pass it on or pitch it??

I agree with Krubinic. Being a teacher I am sure she has had her fill of all that knick knack stuff. i see a lot of 25th and 50th engraved stuff at Goodwill and garage sales. A magazine subscription of their interest would be nice or the local delivery newspaper. It could be a year long gift.

My parents will be married 53 yrs. this August. My idea would be to get a double picture frame. See if you can get a picture of them on their wedding day and a recent one. It's neat to see the pics side by side.

I have seen at Walmart, they can take a picture and put it on an throw/blanket for you and it looks like a big picture it is really nice and it would certainly be personal. . . However, i am not sure how long it takes to get it made. It is just another idea to consider. You can even use there wedding picture for it.

For my mom and dad's 50th, we had a white pillow for everyone to sign their names on. We used a gold ink. On the opposite side, I wrote their names, Happy 50th Anniversary and the date. To this day, whenever the grandkids or great grandson come over, they look for their name. It sits on their "good" couch for all to see.

DH and I celebrated our 50th this past November. Our six kids honored us with a two day celebration. Day 1 was for family and out of town guests, ,with a lg dinner catered in. Day 2 they rented a hall and it was for family anf friends.finger foods, cake ,punch , fruit soft drinks.etc. Now as for gifts. We received money, resturant gift cards, candles, picture frames, picture frames pictures frames.Alot of engraved glass ware, bells and a few really nice placques. One friend crossed stitched " Fiftieth Anniversary"
under that it said,"you are my happiness, my sorrow, my yesterday, my tomorrow" she framed it and it is one of my favorite gifts.and hanging on my dining room wall.Personally I think cash, and gift cards for resturants ,and grocery stores were great. At our ages we don't need/want a lot and most on fixed incomes. You could give that with a hand written card expressing how you feel.
                              I organize chores into catagories.
