FINALLY... I have a current one. Sometimes I'd wake in a panic cause the only will I had would have given everything I have to my stupid ex-husband (w/ whom I haven't lived for more than 15 years!!!). There was always a good reason not to make an appt. w/ an attorney.

Finally, I went to Legalzoom.com and did both of ours online! I can't tell you how much better I sleep!! I can't recommend the company/website highly enough. Now we just have to take 'em to be notarized and we're done!!

We Don't, But I Know We Should, Kids Are Grown, Too Late To Worry About Where They Would Go If Something Happened To Us. We Don't Have Money To Leave The Kids, But Dh Has Alot Of Tools, Welders, Alot Of That Stuff, Which I Dont' Think The Kids Would Fight Over. Dd Has No Interest In Dh's Stuff In The Shop. We Do Have A Good Life Insurance Policy Though, And It's On There The Kids Split It 50/50.

Yes I do, we both do , also have a living will and power of attorney to my kids, should it be needed.

Everytime My Parents Go Out Of Town On A Trip, They Make Sure All 3 Kids Know Where Their Will Is, We All Know Who Has Power Of Atty Over What. I'm Over Medical, Wonder Why??, Sister Over Money. They Don't Let My Brother Do Anything, He's Got His Stuff So F....screwed Up!

Yes we do, my father in law's will and trust was so screwed up, plus we could only find copies of both, that his estate had to go to probate. So DH and I made sure we had everything fixed correctly.

No my daughter was getting on me about that.
But I do now have a Living Will and a Medical Power of Attorney. Go me.... *pats self on back.*
I don't have anything for anyone to split so don't think there is any need realy.

Yes, and also the Advanced Directive and Medical Power of Attorney.

Yes we do and we also have powers of attorney. When my BIL had his heart attacks and stroke, my sister had soooo much trouble. They had wills but no power of attorney. Had to go to court to declare him unfit, and appoint her as his guardian. It was a huge hassle at a time when she really didn't need anything else to worry about.

When we went to Australia, I wrote up a 5 page list of stuff for the kids--everything from where the wills and insurance papers were, to our final wishes, to what to do if one of the animals had to be put down.

I did the same thing a few years ago when I had major surgery. Wrote letter to both kids with info where everything is located, bank accounts, info on doctors, attorneys , accoutants etc. I wanted to make sure they have all the info they may need, and one day they will need it. So every year I go over that letter and update as necessary.

Yes. My DH came very, very close to dying last year and we had nothing done. He lived and YES, we did it and now our family is secure. He has 2 grown sons. They are great kids but as I'm sure you've noticed from previous posts, people get weirded out when they think they might get a little bit of money. Very sad!

We do,also only have one child so that was easy, plus incase of all of our deaths we have other people in mind. My parents are deceased but they had it all organized, even the funeral home of their choice. I have a brother so it was a 50/50 thing. I have friends that had to go to court because of siblings being greedy, more money for the lawyers. I will suggest you get your affairs in order because it can get bad if the kids fight.

no we dont.......and thx for the site. we really need to get this done. i know the two older girls would be ok.........but the youngest is 13 and i know "certain" people in his family would fight to get custody of her. and NOT for her.........but what they "think" she can bring them.

Chop, my DD is a mess with money, we got someone to give her monthly checks incase of our deaths, but we hope as she gets older & we still are around we may not need this. My g/f inherted $30,000 but her SIL is a pain so 1 yr in court over this cost them $10,000 in lawyer fees. I still don't think this is done, they went to superior court about it. The judges threw it out because it was so stupid but still cost my friends money. My parents died & I have a brother but we did what the will said 50/50 but before they died he did take care of their finances, he is an accountant which entitles him to 10% for taken care of their money but he is a nice brother & said no. I told him to take the 10% he was going threw a divorce & a kid in college but he said no. If he ever needs anything I am there for him.

Wow... he IS a nice brother, roset. My parents didn't leave anything except my mom's antique furniture and my brother and we agreed we'd never fight over it! I've seen horrors of family members fighting over stuff/money. We divided up the furniture and we each got what we liked and were happy.

My former MIL died and ex-husband's sister is a mess w/ money. Her inheritance went to her son... an accountant... to parcel out to her so she won't blow it all.

The friend of a friend of mine died not too long ago and only AFTER he died did she find out she was the executrix of his will and had to do a TON of work to get his house in decent repair to sell! What a mess that was! She only took the money for the repairs from his estate... not the 10%.

we don't but have been thinking about it. and just last night someone told us to set up a trust. can someone explain a trust and why we would want one over a will?
