Has anyone had success with online dating?

Has anyone had a marriage out of it? If so, how long married?


You always hear about the horror stories about online dating.


I met my hubby on a blind date 19 1/2 years ago. Married for 18 this Nov!

my bil met his 2nd wife..in the newspaper dating section..they were married for 13yrs..unfortunatly it ended in divorce..my dh's friend..is recently divorced and he's been dating online..and he's so frusterated with the women he's met..

I met my DH online way back in 1996 playing spades at the game zone. We have been married almost 11 years.

My good friend met her husband on a local dating site. They have been married almost 5 years.

My cousin met a few women online through a very popular online dating service and then went on to marry the last one. They just got married a month ago.

Geesh, I am beginning to feel like I am the failure in this bunch! I have dated men that I met online, and all of them were complete disasters in the end - always because of one little thing - I was completely honest about who and what I was - and all of them failed to be completely honest about themselves. One forgot to tell me that he was a control freak with an anger management problem, one never mentioned that he had addiction issues, one failed to tell me that he didnt work and was looking for someone to support him. Never again!!! If God ever intends for me to have another man in my life, He is going to have to drop one right in my lap! I am not looking anymore, especially on the computer!

Online dating usually reflects when you meet people in person. If you are gullable when meeting guys in person, they realize it and do the same thing online. If you are very aware in real life and don't attract liars, you will get honest online.

I don't think guys tell you in person when they have anger issues or addiction issues or are leeches in person either.

People are unrealistic about online dating a lot. They think they can order up whatever they want, no matter what their circumstances are.

Cottun, I'm sorry your experiences have not been what you expected. You are not alone. Most don't show their true self until in person. My Cousin had to weed thru lots before she found her prince (well in her eyes, lol).

You know I agree with SPJ, I think irl you get more clues and signals to go off of. You may know someone who knows this person, and naturally you grill them, and ask them if you know thi other person. No one shows their crappy side to start with.

I find a really good question to ask is...(hypothetically) If you walked into a gun store, would you be able to buy a gun? I find this question to be reveling in a few ways (at least in California).. #1 If you had a criminal past, you would not be able to buy a gun. #2 If you had been committed to a mental institution for treatment, you would not be able to buy a gun, and most of all #3 I would never date someone who would buy a gun. I find this to be a really excellent screening process.
In all seriousness though (but I really do ask that question before I meet someone) Most of the men I have met on line have commitment issues (like a wife) There is no way to screen for the honesty in that regard.
