AHA! I knew it!Lauren~The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people. ~

Re: i dont get it
Yeah, I always wonder why someone would build a huge house on a potential mudslide!
When we had all those floods acouple weeks ago, I now see all these people hauling piles of damaged belongings out to the curb to be thrown out. I keep wondering why they didn't move stuff to higher grounds before the water got that high! I know there were some FLASHFLOODS, but many of them watched the floodwaters rise over several days! DUH. I think I would have rented a U-Haul if I was that close to a river.
I agree, I will take the risk of a tornado anyday.

What about all those that live along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico and Wash. DC to the tip of the Florida Keys and those hurricanes that come on a yearly basis. I'll take an occasional earthquake. In normal weather conditions California especially the northern part would have rain. This year Iowa and Illinois got the rain instead.

Family can't understand why I live in Az. well, DH's job #1 but I really do like it. I know right now is not a good time to live here. 110 can't wait til Aug. when it really gets hot. But when winter comes, it is beautiful here, everyone is upset with their heating bills, snow & everything else. I do miss the changes of seasons but still love it here. Az. is not for everyone.

Re: i dont get it
After living in Southern California for most of my life, earthquakes do not phase me. Tiz nature...just like hurricanes or tornados. As far as the fires, one must keep in mind that often the fire is started not by nature but because of arson. The tragic fire last Fall in Modjeska Canyon/Silverado...right down the street from me, was set intentionally. If some A$$'$ had not decided to torch the canyon, there would not have been this tragedy. As well, several of the other fires last Fall here in Southern California...arson. Many people build their homes on cliffs/slop land ect...why...they do not think anything will ever happen to THEM. People do not think tragedy will strike THEM. Or it could happen one time but never a second. That is just irresponsible.
It is funny....every year hurricane season comes. and my husband and I say...it would be lovely to have a home on the Gulf coast...and then we quickly say no way! When we move out of California..and we will...it will not be because of earthquakes or high prices or fires or mudslides..................lousy things happen everywhere. It will be because it is so darn liberal. We will be off to Idaho or Arizona or the coast of Oregon or maybe that perfect place in Texas...I do love Texas!!!
