  • Deadliest Catch - Capt Phil

    Does anyone watch Deadliest Catch?
Can they milk Capt Phil's rib injury any more? Seemed to be the focal point of almost every episode in the marathon I was watching on and off yesterday.
I know it's edited for the most dramatic effect, but I wonder if he knows what a whiney butt, crybaby it makes him look like.
After about the third show, I started flipping over to another channel every time he came on.
I hope it's nothing serious, but, come on, get on with the rest of the show.

I have become a recent NUT fan about this show. I have gone to the website and it is a hot topic, He actually has a blood clot in his lung. He is on blood thinners and cannot go back to sea like that. I think the TV show is continually dwelling on it because the fans are. After all it is the hottest topic and great for ratings.

We Love The Show. Looks Like It Wasn't A Rib Injury, Didn't Puncture A Lung, He Had A Pulmonary Embolism, Blood Clot Went Thru His Lungs. Could Be Deadly, He'll Be On Blood Thinners For The Rest Of His Life. The Boat May Not Be An Option For Him Anymore.

EDITED TO ADD: AND AFTER SEEING NUMEROUS PATIENTS IN CRITICAL CARE WITH PULM. EMBOLISIMS (PE'S) THEY ARE VERY PAINFUL.

I love the show too! Did anyone watch "After the Catch" where they sit around a table and talk to Mike Rowe? Phil said that if the blood thinners didn't work he could have 2 weeks to live! He also said that his Mother died of the same thing only her blood clot lodged in her heart. I don't think Phils milking it. They had to convince him to go to the hospital. I think the network is milking it by playing it over and over!

I Don't Know Why They Would Say That Though. Unless There's Something Else Going On They're Not Telling Everyone. He Didn't Look Like He Had 2 Wks To Live. There Are A Couple Kinds Of Blood Thinners He Can Use, Sure If He Fails All Of Then, He Can Throw Another Clot Anytime And Die Immediatly. But I've Never Seen Bloodthinners Fail. They Just Have To Monitor The Blood Frequently, Especially At First.

I understood him to say when he had the first xray done at the clinic (and thought it was cancer) is when he was told the 2 week thing (at Dutch Harbor) not the real hospital hospital.

so what else are they to cover?

they catch crabs. there has to be something else other than catching crabs to the show a rib injury to the caption is pretty newsworthy. all his fans are concerned for him, we all want to know how he's doing.

OMG-When I fell in love with the show, I did not post any questions or comments because I didn't think anyone else would be watching! I guess we do have a bunch of "Crabbies" on here!

Love Love that show. I thought capt phil was being a whiney baby, but then when I found out what was really going on I felt kinda bad I'd felt that way. DH is totally addicted, he watches it for hours,, even the reruns. I usually give up when I know word for word what's coming. It is very addicting.

Hard work & never knowing if you will get hurt. DH is into Ice Truckers. Anyone see those Ice Truckers, another hard job.

I just discovered Ice Road Truckers too! Watched an episode right after the Deadliest Catch marathon and, lo and behold, Alex (one of the truckers) is hacking his lungs out and coughing up blood too.
