Prayer request for my DD's furbaby...

We'd appreciate any prayers you can offer for Flea. He got out for a few hours last week, and got bit at the base of his tale by another cat. Tonya didn't notice it until a few days later. He is on antibiotics for infection, but is not doing well right now. He's very listless, and hasn't been eating or drinking. She's taking him back to the vet at 6:30 tonight. Please say a prayer that he will recover and be healthy again. He is her baby. She's very distraught.

Poor Flea! It's heartbreaking when our furbabies are sick or hurt. Praying for his swift recovery!

Well, the vet said it was a cat bite, so I guess they can tell.

Ok, Tonya just called. They wanted to hospitalize him, but she nor I can afford that, so they are treating him on an outpatient basis. They gave him a strong dose of antibiotics in a shot, and are sending him home with more meds and a special liquid for hydration. It's costing $185. for today's treatment. It was already $75. for the first visit. Pets sure can be expensive, but they are worth it.

Sorry about the furbaby Bette. Please tell your daughter that if he isn't eating at all she should assist feed him. it is essential that a cat does not go too long without eating because of the risks of hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease). Try warming & mushing (adding extra liquid) the food and feeding from her finger. She could try adding some tuna juices to the mix as well. It hasn't been long enough without eating to worry about it but keep it in mind.

Although the following site is generally frequented by those whose cat has CRF (as mine did) the assist feed techniques are excellent.

I used a type of syringe (w/o needle) and liquified the food and fed at the side of the mouth. Mostly she fought me but some got in.

(((hugs))) I hope poor little Flea is feeling better today.

I swore I'd look into pet insurance after going through what we just did with our dear little terrier. I will say, though, that the vet did not bill us although he spent a whole day (a Sunday) running back into the office every 2 hours to check on our baby. He said he just felt so bad about the med causing the reaction that he eventually died of.
The emergency vet clinic was over $1500, but how can you put a price on the love and devotion a pet gives you over the years?

I haven't heard how he's doing today, because Tonya is sleeping now. She works nights. I'll assume that no news is good news for the time being. ((((Flea))))) BTW, Flea is named after one of the Red Hot Chile Peppers. Tonya is a huge fan.

Please keep the prayers going up for Flea. He's such a sweet kitty.
