  • How do you get soap taste out of plastic?

I have a 2-cup coffee maker so you can make just one or two cups of different flavoured coffee due to separate baskets for the grinds. I must have left the plastic cups/baskets in some soapy water for too long cause now I just get soapy tasting coffee (yuk). I've tried rinsing and rinsing and rinsing but nothing seems to work. I tried brewing the coffee into a metal cup but I still get the soapy taste. It must be primarily the baskets.

ARRGH - this was a perfect method for me to make coffee as I only drink one cup in the AM and now I can't even do that

    Can you say caffeine withdrawal?

Try soaking the containers in water with baking soda added. It neutralizes smells in the fridge, maybe it will do the same for plastic.
Communicate. It can't make things any worse!

I'm doing that right now Ginger. I hope it works.

However, while I'm soaking it I think I'll go out for a coffee LOL

you might try brewing some white vinegar and then soak the filters in more white vinegar. Be sure to run water thru the machine a few times after you try the vinegar.

          Thanks for all the suggestions.

I have fixed the problem. After leaving the cup and the filter in baking soda water for a couple of days, I've dumped the cream I had been putting into my coffee and problem solved.

I figured after I'd tried making coffee into a metal container and then pulling out an old glass coffee maker and having the same problem that it couldn't be the coffee maker it had to be another source.

New creamer - good coffee - hurray

The "helpful Hints" Thread I Posted Yesterday, Said To Put An Effervescent Denture Cleaner In Hot Water And Run Thru Your Machine And It Cleans It. May Try That If It Happens Again.

Nu - it was the creamer that was the problem. I used a coffee maker I hadn't used in a while - glass carafe - and still had the soapy taste. Once I used the new cream the problem was gone.

I'll keep your solution in mind if I need to rid something of a bad taste though. Thanks

Glad you didnt get ill from the soapy tasting creamer! I know you resolved it but wanted to add ....I always clean hubbys thermos, lid and cup by first washing well then I pour some baking soda in thermos and then fill with white vinegar ...careful it foams all over, very messy! I then put lid and cup in big bowl just bif enough to hold them and sprinkle w/baking soda and then vinegar ....soak about 10 -15 mins and I promise all smells will be gone!
