Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
I am pursuing my Bachelor degree as we speak. I did regular classes as well as online classes for my Associates. Online classes were great. I only had one that thought he had to punish us for taking his class online! I still made an A, but it was a tough one!
I just started at the "big" school this week. OSU: Oklahoma State University. Go Cowboys! It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think I will be okay. It is a lot more work and my Political Science Professor tried his best to put me to sleep yesterday!!
My DH says I am so ripe to become a professional student. I tend to agree with him. My major is Psychology, but I am thinking of switching to Gen. Business-Pre Law.

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
Well one thing I made sure I taught my daughter (who's 23 and the one persuing her PhD), and that is to get her education out of the way FIRST so that she never has to depend on any man to support her!!!! She is taking heed to my suggestion too, because she told her b/f of 7 years now, that she is NOT marrying him or even getting engaged until she has her PhD (one year down, four to go!!!). So, he said he still wants to be with her, and has decided to move in with her for awhile to see if they can make it while he looks for a job in his field since he just finished his Bachelors Degree. He really is a great guy, so we hope they hang in there.
I hear you Sabine, I guess I just am getting either too lazy or too comfy (or BOTH) in my "low man on the totem pole job".........I like the low stress levels compared to those 15 years of running on high adrenaline rushes working for egomaniac Gods!!!! LOL.........however, KUDOS to you for doing what you did @ 44!!!
And GayleTX...........YEP, you got it! That's DH's and my plan.......let our kids take care of US now, LOL!!!

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
I went to school at 18 finished at 21. I took around 20 hours a semester including through the summer. I got my BA in 3 years. I miss school, I hate work! Did it pay off? No, at least not yet. If I had to go back and do it again I would have gotten a degree in something like nursing, law, teaching, or something that guarantees a job instead of English (something I enjoyed).
Best of luck and let me know if you have any questions. I did online courses as well as telecourses and going to class.

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
krubinic, 51 is not old, certainly not too old to go back and get your RN, not with your past experience and schooling. What do you have to lose ?
I had to go back to work full time at age 44 when my husband passed away. Had to take college courses ( and computer courses, which just about killed me ) and get certified in my field. But I did it, and I am not sorry.

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
I have an Associate of Science degree. I am an RN. My class was the design of the teacher and her doctrate theory. After the first summer we became certified Nurses aids, after first year we took LVN state boards and after second year we took RN state boards. Her theory was with all this training and maybe you don't finish you could at least work to support yourself. So I have been all three and respect everybody in the Nursing field.

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
I have just a "diploma" in Medical Assisting. I started to take pre-requisite courses to get into a nursing school, however, I decided to sacrifice it all and concentrate on my kids, their activities and helping them get ready for college.
It has paid off for them because all three now have degrees of their own now. One has a Bachelors in Business Management/Finance, one a Bachelors in Music Recording Technology (minor in Physics) and Masters in Computer Science. The third has her Bachelors in Psychology, Master in MS Ed and is currently working straight through to her PhD in School Psychology.
My kids are trying to encouraging me to go back to school to get my nursing degree. But at 51 I feel that my ship has sailed and gone out to sea. I no longer am in the medical field after 15 years of working for Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeons. If I take any classes in the future, it will be "enrichment" classes like Conversational Spanish or Sign Language (which I could probably use in my current job) and any type of Culinary Arts Classes to "maybe" become a personal chef.
I do not regret putting my children's educations ahead of mine though because I enjoy seeing them succeed in life more so now.

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
SweetPea......
My BA is in English and History with a teaching certificate (high school level). While I was teaching, I got my Master's in both Counseling Psychology and Vocational Counseling; after that, I got an LPC (Licensed Professonal Counselor). I took some of my continuing ed classes (the kind you have to take every year to keep your license) on line, but I really prefer the classroom....I enjoyed the people in my classes and learned a lot just being around them.....also made some good connections that opened some work opportunity doors for me.

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
I became an LPN in my early 20s and then went to college (5 years going part time at the community college and then full time at a university for 2 years) for a degree in English in my early 40s. It was the most fun of my life... never mind all the work. It was awesome!
Unfortunately, I took some not so good advice and couldn't do the Masters in Teaching program I hoped to do after my English degree... so I graduated w/ an amazing library of books and not ONE job skill. Luckily, my medical background steered me toward medical publishing where I worked for years.
I'd love to go back to school, but I STILL don't know what I wanna be when I grow up!

Re: Anyone else in college? Or have a degree?
I'm in online college University of Phoenix to get my Associates in Education to be a teacher's aide. I took this week off after finishing 2 classes last Sunday and start back on Monday. I'll be finished on March 15. I love the online classes because I can do my work when I want and go to class on my time table so to speak.
