That's what we're doing this weekend. We're novices...never done it before. How hard is it? We're doing it in our entry, kitchen, and half bath. I'm hoping we can do it! Any tips?

Re: Anybody ever put down wood laminate flooring?
i am not a floor installer, i only play one online.
therefore, with my uneducated advice, i can tell you that you will need a ruler, a saw, a pencil, some knee pads and a rubber mallot.
drink lots of water, and take breaks it will hurt your knees and your back. it's a major work out on the body.I just hold on tighter, to a hand that's stronger...he knows my every thought, he clears my weary heart, and hold's on tighter...

Dh, Mil And Sil Put This Flooring Down In Our Kitchen. It Was Very Easy And If You Have The Peices Lined Up Right They Pop Right Into Place. Good Luck
The Only Think I Don't Like About This Flooring, Is That It Is A Floating Floor And When It Is Humid We Get A Couple Spots That Seem To Bubble Up.SHEL

Re: Anybody ever put down wood laminate flooring?
I did my living room and family room about two years ago. I just read the directions and kinda followed them. Mine was laid on concrete slab so I had to put down a moisture barrier (plastic sheeting). Make sure floor is pretty level, no big dips. Buy plenty of the 1/4 inch spacers and the little tool to tap the pieces together. After a while you'll get in the groove and it goes fast till you have to start notching around stuff. Good luck and I'm sure you'll love it

We did ours ourselves (well I watched DH and gave him numerious opinions). It wasn't hard at all. DH reinforced the flooring with thin nails. I'm sure they have a name but that is as tech as I get."Everyone's a star and deserves the right to twinkle"

What happens when you get to the wall? Do you pull off the base boards, set the floor in, then replace them? I watched a couple shows on HGTV on these floors, but neither of them said what to do when you get to the walls, they just showed a happy couple just smiling away in the middle of the room, snapping into place.. grrrr..

depending on how high your baseboards are when you pull up your carpet, you can either put the laminate board under it, or if not, then you'll have to pull the baseboards up. and replace once the floor is down, as well as a 1/4 round trim to finish the trim nicely.I just hold on tighter, to a hand that's stronger...he knows my every thought, he clears my weary heart, and hold's on tighter...

Re: Anybody ever put down wood laminate flooring?
You don't have to pull up the baseboards. If the flooring doesn't fit UNDER, just get some nice quarter round to cover the gap. You have to be very careful about nicking the edges. (the cheaper the floor, the easier it will nick on the edges) be very gentle with that rubber mallet--especially when you throw it at your DH's head. It is a great week end project and really quite easy.
One last thing--wear a mask while cutting the boards. The dust is VERY bad for anyone who has any kind of breathing problem. I don't know if it throws up as much dust if you use a hand saw, but DH used an electric one and we were coughing our heads off after just 1 cut. (and then we got smart!)Communicate. It can't make things any worse!

Re: Anybody ever put down wood laminate flooring?
My DH did this in our kitchen, hallway, bathroom, & laundry room about 4 years ago. It was DEFINITELY NOT as easy as the instructions portrayed it to be!!! However, since he's a "jack of all trades, master of none", his efforts turned out magnificent!!!
