Re: Have you read any good books lately?
I just read the Hobbit. It was really good - hard to put down. I don't usually read fantasy but since I'd seen the trilogy movies I thought it would be nice to see what the next movie was about. I read Cell by Stephen King before that - what an awesome book!!!! I'm about to start Twilight by Stephanie Meyer. The movie comes out in a couple of months!

Re: Have you read any good books lately?
I fell off the wagon - no, not alcohol - cookbooks.
I've just read Jean Anderson's "An Affair with Southern Cooking" - grand recipes and a 'good read' to boot.
The other book I'm sorry to say I bought was "Cake Love". Maybe if I had an unlimited budget I'd appreciate it more, but he (Warren somebody - already forgot his last name) uses so many liquers and other ingredients like potato flour that are not staples in my house that I'll probably never use it. The potato flour, for instance is an ingredient in almost everyone of his recipes - sometimes as little as 1 Tbsp.

Oh Smellis, now you have to read The Lord of the Rings. There is soooooo much more in the books than they could put in the movies. And the Hobbit is just the foretaste. The Hobbit is one of my favourite books. Whenever I plan to re-read TLOTR, I always start with The Hobbit.
I haven't started a new book for a while. But we are going on holidays in a couple of weeks and I have a pile waiting to come with me.Communicate. It can't make things any worse!

Mew, do you have bulk stores where you live? (Not sure if that is a Canadian phenomenon) Any time I need just a little bit of something, I get it at the Bulk Barn, instead of investing in a whole package. Also a great place for spices. Much cheaper.Communicate. It can't make things any worse!

If we do, I'm not aware of any.Maybe I'll let my fingers walk through the Yellow Pages. A couple of our grocery chains used to have a "bulk" aisle which would have nuts, seeds, candies, etc., but they've been nonexistent for probably 10-12 years now for whatever reason. I used to treat myself to some cashews almost weekly from the bulk aisle.
Thanks.

Ghosts from the Nursery: Tracing the Roots of Violence. It sounds like a dull, heavy book, but it is one of the best books I have read in years. This should be required reading for anyone thinking of having a baby.Be kinder than necessary. Everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

I am almost done with A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, and Maggie Now will be next. I can't believe it has taken me sooooo long to find and read this book! It is SOOOOOO GOOD!!
After Maggie Now, I have a couple of Harlan Coben books lined up that looked really good.
Oh, also finished The Shack about a week ago. Not sure how I felt about that one...It was kinda "out there" a little..Lauren~The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence over that by the good people. ~

I've read the Lord of the Rings trilogy several times. It's the best! I've just ordered The Children of Hurin, which takes place before the Hobbit and LOTR. Can't wait to jump in!Last edited by luvs2eat; 08-27-2008, 10:07 PM."What fresh hell is this?" Dorothy Parker
