anyone have where they call call through the internet

where you can make calls through the internet and tell your old phone company bye bye.
we have [email protected] for home phone so we decided to download skype which I do not believe is all that great.We saw a info commercial about magic jack and someone talk us into skype so I was wondering if you have your phone service through the net what is your comments on this type of service good or bad.
