I just figured out you can send text messages to someone's cell phone from your computer (on Verizon, anyway...don't know about other companies)
Just email ##########@vtext.com (### is the ten digit phone number)
I dont know that I'll ever use it that much, but I thought it was cool!

Do you pay extra for text messages or are they included in my "free" 400 minutes a month?

Yep!
Can only send short messages though. I'm not sure what the word count is.
If they charge an arm and a leg extra for text messages though, I'm gonna be in a world of hurt when the phone bill comes! LOL

For Verizon you are charged by the text message volume unless you sign up for unlimited. Which we have since my 17 DD pays for.

I learned the hard way on this one. My ds racked up a nine hundred dollar bill about six months ago. All because I didn't know that you could do this and he didn't have unlimited texting. He now does, but I also blocked the internet from his phone. So, no more surprise bills.
