  • A dilemma for President Bush

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080919/ap_on_re_us/death_by_grenade

I read this and at first thought the soldier should have been given the Medal of Honor. Then I read that he may have been party to a friendly fire incident, so now I'm not so sure. What do you think?

The grenade was lobbed by an insurgent not friendly fire - he used his body to cover the grenade thus saving his fellow comrades. So yes, he definitely should receive the Medal Of Honor. The friendly fire issue comes in because he was shot BEFORE using his body to cover the grenade. Well he may have survived the friendly fire gunshot wound but that isn't what killed him. Give him the Medal of Honor. No dilemma in my book.

No medal. Witnesses have said that his bullet-riddled body flopped on the floor and "may" have flopped onto the grenade, but if so, it wasn't intentional, half his head was gone. He was proved dead by coroners before the shrapnel from the grenade went off..
