Will never have hard tile in kitchen again. Have developed sciatica and a pulled hamstring. I find I can't stand very long on the hard surface without the pain starting. I know there are mats that help cushion the floor. Anyone use them? Not even sure what they are called. Looked at Costco, but they had nothing. Even the woman checking your receipt as you exit stands on one.

Re: Hard Ceramic Tile Kitchen floor causing back and knee pain
check kitchen / restaurant supply stores for those mats. Also maybe beauty supply stores, my shop has those mats under the chairs.
I had a tile floor in my previous house , and even so I liked the looks and it was easy to take care of, it was hard to stand on it for a long time. I have a wood floor now and like it much better.

Re: Hard Ceramic Tile Kitchen floor causing back and knee pain
it isn't so much the hard floor as it is he un even ness of the tiles. i don't have tile in my kitchen, but dad does, my back hurt at dads, shoes helped.I just hold on tighter, to a hand that's stronger...he knows my every thought, he clears my weary heart, and hold's on tighter...

Re: Hard Ceramic Tile Kitchen floor causing back and knee pain
well, this is good to know. We have just purchased hardwood for our home and hubby and I were trying to decide if we should put ceramic tile in kitchen or the hardwood,,,,I think I may do the hardwood now.A balanced diet is a cookie in both hands

Re: Hard Ceramic Tile Kitchen floor causing back and knee pain
Thanks, y'all. Our last house I put in vinyl tile that looked like ceramic. I had read that the ceramic was hard on your knees. It looked great and everyone thought it was ceramic when they saw it. I should not have put in the hard tile in this house. You could do wood and just put some throw rugs over it. They could just get thrown in the washer.
Good ideas. Just having trouble locating mats in stores. Our town is not a big one. Will have to shop on the internet.
