Pls tweak my baked ziti recipe !

For year, we have used:

pkge ziti noodles
sauteed onion
can of mushrooms
pkge of shredded cheese
pkge of cottage cheese
can of tomato sauce

And it's been fine ... now, with some packages going smaller, it doesn't have much taste anymore. What else can we add ?

This is how I fix mine..

1 pound sry ziti pasta 1 1/2 cups sour cream
1 onion chopped 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 pound ground beef 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
6 ounces provolone cheese

Drain cooked zita..brown ground beef and onion. drain and add spaghetti sauce, sim for 15 min. Preheat oven to 350..Butter 9x13 dish. Layer 1/2 ziti, Provolone cheese, sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese, and remaining sauce. top with grated parmesean cheese..cover and bake for 30 min..

I've made baked ziti for years, used to be our reg Sunday dinner in honor of the Sopranos.

1lb box penne (I just like the shape better than ziti)
1lb ground beef
1Tbl chopped garlic
salt n pepper
1 med onion chopped
1 jar very good pasta sauce
1 can Italian seasoned tomato paste
16oz ricotta
1/2C real parmesan cheese
8oz bag shredded mozzarella

Brown beef with garlic and onion. Stir in pasta sauce, tomato paste and 1/2 tomato paste can of water. Bring to simmer. Boil pasta 1-2min short of time on box. Mix ricotta with parmesan and salt n pepper. In 13x9 baking dish, put 1 ladle of sauce. Next put 1/2 noodles, then 1/2 sauce, 1/2 ricotta, 1/2 mozzarella. Repeat layers, cover loosely with foil and bake 40min at 350.

**if you use fresh garlic, real Parmesan reggiano and a very good pasta sauce you will get lots of flavor.

I would add some garlic, maybe some spicy turkey sausage sauteed with the onion and some red pepper flakes.

Baked Ziti

1 lb Ziti, cooked
1 lb Hamburger, cooked
1 15 oz pk ricotta cheese
1/4 c Parsley
1/2 c Parmesan cheese
1 Egg
2 c Shredded mozzarella cheese
3 c Sauce of your choice

Mix ricotta cheese, egg, parsley and Parmesan cheese together.
Carefully mix hamburger with this mixture. Add ziti. Mix in 3/4 of
the sauce of your choice. Spread in a pan. Put the rest of the sauce
on top. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top. Bake at 350F for 30-35

Here's mine:

Baked Ziti

INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)

* 1 pound dry ziti pasta
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 pound lean ground beef
* 2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce (I use sauteed onion and garlic)
* 6 ounces provolone cheese, sliced
* 1 1/2 cups sour cream
* 6 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
* 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.
2. In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef over medium heat. Add spaghetti sauce, and simmer 15 minutes.
3. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer as follows: 1/2 of the ziti, Provolone cheese, sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
4. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until cheeses are melted.

An aside---not to hijack the thread, though I am!---to FloridaGirly:
We're having a bad time with accidentally picking up SMOKED provolone rather than the regular. Anyone else with this problem?? I really don't care for smoked cheese and don't wish to put in recipes....

I've never made baked Ziti, but I make this several times a year and we all love it, and anyone who's tried it loves it. Has alot of the same ingredients.


CHEESY SAUSAGE PENNE

1 LB. ITALIAN SAUSAGE
1 (26OZ) JAR SPAGHETTI SAUCE
1 PKG (1LB) PENNE OR TUBE PASTA
1 GARLIC CLOVE, MINCED
1 CUP SOUR CREAM
1 (8OZ) CREAM CHEESE
4 GREEN ONION, SLICED
2 CUPS SHREDDED CHEDDAR CHEESE

IN A LARGE SKILLET, COOK THE SAUSAGE AND GARLIC OVER MEDIUM HEAT UNTIL MEAT IS NO LONGER PINK; DRAIN. STIR IN SPAGHETTI SAUCE; BRING TO BOIL. REDUCE HEAT; COVER AND SIMMER FOR 20 MINUTES. MEANWHILE, COOK PASTA ACCORDING TO PACKAGE DIRECTIONS; DRAIN. IN A SMALL MIXING BOWL, COMBINE THE CREAM CHEESE, SOUR CREAM AND ONIONS. IN A GREASED SHALLOW 3 QT BAKING DISH, LAYER HALF OF THE PASTA AND SAUSAGE MIXTURE; DOLLOP WITH HALF OF THE CREAM CHEESE MICTURE; SRINKLE WITH HALF THE SHREDDED CHEESE. REPEAT LAYERS. BAKE UNCOVERED, AT 350 DEGREES FOR 30-35 MINUTES OR UNTI BUBBLY.

Do you mix the sausage sauce mixture with the pasta? Or do you layer the pasta and top with the mixture, then the other ingredients?

You don't use any kind of sauce, besides just plain ole tomato? That sounds blah.

Just wanted you all to know that I took your suggestions and made The Best baked ziti last night!!

I made two pans; dh and i finished off the first pan and I licked it clean, then dd and ds ate the other pan, and she took the leftovers to work with her for lunch !!!

And my family can be reallllllllllllllllllllllllllllly fussy about food !!!
