  • Peach cookies

Hello..........up until now I've been more of a "viewer" than a participant. Love to read all the great recipes, advice and can sense the wonderful friendships on this discussion board. So...........I'm looking for a recipe and I figured now is as good a time as any to start "participating".

My daughter was at a bridal shower today out in Pittsburgh, PA and she was telling me about the "most adorable" cookies. She said they are cookies that are formed to look like a real peach and in the middle was a cherry (?maraschino) to resemble the pit. Does anyone have such a recipe? Unfortunately, she was having such a great time at the shower, she forgot to ask someone if these cookies came from a professional bakery or if someone made them.

Would love to try these on my own. Thanks in advance for any info anyone can provide!

Sorry I can't help with the recipe, but welcome to the best recipe board around, lots of fun and lots of great people.

Welcome Kathy ~ I have never heard of such a cookie. Do you think it was marzipan?

Welcome to the board! I've never heard of such a cookie, either. But, didn't Gary have a post one time about some kind of unique cookie that was shaped like a peach? I'll search and see if I can find it.

          Peach Cookie

It doesn't "sound" like she was describing marzipan, but then again, that's always a thought. She described it more as two cookies placed (or molded) together so they have that "line in the middle" like a real peach. I've heard of something called an Austrian peach cookie. I'll have to explore more on the internet too. By the way, thank you so much for the quick replies........... WOW!!!!!!!!! You guys are fast in being so helpful!

              WELCOME, from another Pennsylvania gal!
Here is what you do....easiest answer ever...she went to a bridal shower...she was invited...have her contact her inviter (bride, mom of bride, mom of groom, etc.) and ASK where the cookies came from. Most (ok everyone) would be flattered to hear what a hit they're food was. If from a bakery, call and ask for recipe. If someone made them, ask for recipe.
Otherwise, I'm sure with all the girls here, we can find something like it!

I remember somebody asking for these cookies before -- maybe last summer. I think there was a recipe, but I didn't print it out. I'll bet somebody has the secret!

If you go to allrecipes.com there are several recipes that sound like they may be similiar. Called "australian peach cookies" but I just searched "peach cookies".
                    Hope this helps.

Pesche - Italian Peach Wedding Cookies #100104
                      recipe by Kozmic Blues

Years ago, my grandmother and great-aunt went to Italy for their cousin's daughter's wedding. They ALWAYS tell the story of this glorious table full of these delectable cookies shaped like little peaches. My great-aunt, being the baker of the family, asked her cousin for the recipe. She was told that these lovely little cookies were traditionally served at weddings there in their small Italian village. She brought the recipe home, with the hopes for making them for SOMEBODY"S wedding! I was lucky enough to be the one! The recipe itself is quite simple, however, it is the method in which you assemble the cookies that makes these so unique. My great aunt adapted the original filling. In Italy, the peach cookies were filled with cream custard held together at the crease by dark chocolate. Because she needed to make her's in advance, she changes the filling to peach preserves. If you use the traditional cream for the filling, the cookies must be made and eaten THAT DAY. I've left the recipe in her original words. The number of cookies this makes is an ESTIMATE! Will update after I speak to my great-aunt.
                      100 cookies
                      1 hour 10 minutes 1 hr prep
                      2 cups sugar
                      8 large eggs
                      2 cups vegetable oil
8 cups flour (you may have to keep adding flour until firm enough to form balls)
                      2 tablespoons baking powder
                      peach preserves
                      peach brandy
                      red food coloring
                      granulated sugar

                      Heat oven to 350°.
                      Lightly grease cookie sheets.
Mix together sugar, eggs and oil. Add flour and baking powder.
Form 1" balls (cookies should be "flat" on the bottom where they rest on the cookie sheet) and bake about 10-15 minutes (until lightly browned on the bottom).
While still warm, take a small pointed knife and scoop out a pocket on the flat side of each cookie.
Fill with preserves & spread a small amount on the flat sides as you join 2 cookies together to form the peach.
Color the brandy with a little food coloring & dip the peaches to give them a "blush".
Then roll the peach in granulated sugar.
You may garnish with artificial leaves for presentation.
**Variation--if you have the time to make these lovely cookies on the actual day that they will be eaten, you may fill the pockets with pastry cream, and then seal the two halves together with melted dark chocolate!

Oh I've had these before and they are good! I've seen a recipe before for these - I think it was under Recipe Requests on the old board. I'll have to check to see if I have it saved anywhere, or maybe someone who has access to the old board can search for it.

                          Peach Cookies

Thank you all so much for trying to help me out on this one. I think what I'll do is what "Maddison" suggested.........have my daughter (or her boyfriend's mother who also attended the shower) try to track down the creator of these unique little cookies. Hopefully, it's not one of those secret family recipes, LOL!

                            Peach Cookies

Lina..........I just got your reply........THANKS! I'd bet these are going to be pretty much what my DD was talking about. Except she said they definitely used a maraschino cherry as the "pit". Which IMO wouldn't be as yummy as this version of yours. The bride-to-be isn't of Italian ancestory, but, she is part Slovakian..........so that would explain the ethnic relevance since it's just about the same European region.

I'm excited to try these out now with this recipe! I don't have a bridal shower or wedding to throw, but I do have a family picnic coming up this summer and we are Croatian, so the relatives should get a nice surprise out of them!
