  • Waiting For Your Name To Be Called!!

Can someone tell me why if you are scheduled at a certain time for an appt at a doctors office and often sit for over an hour before your name is called?

This has happened twice to me at the orthopedic surgeons office. Last Wed I had a follow-up on my surgery and I sat for over an hour in the waiting room and then another 1/2 hour in the exam room. I saw the doctor for less than one minute

Yesterday, same thing. It was almost 2 hours before they called my name and then the nurse took out my stitches, he came in and said it looked great and sent me on my way.

    Gets me seething.

This used to happen to me every time I went in for any kind of Doc appointment.

The military has set new rules about waiting. I would rather wait then see those QUACKS!

    That's another story.

Had this explained to me at my Orthos office.......they now schedule appts. every 5 minutes!!! They said "while they TRY to be on schedule, we sometimes get off track if someone has lots of questions"......I have also noticed that they schedule about 4 people AT the Same Time for those 5 minute time slots. Who can be in 5 places at once???? They count on people not showing up/missing appts so they dont waste time in there day by just sitting. lolol This is why now the PA's and nurses do all of the "interviewing" so that the doc can look at your chart, come in and say HI and charge you 75.00 for the smile.

I have to agree, it makes me so angry having to sit and wait way beyond my appointment time. My family doctor is the worst. But he is a good doctor and has been my doctor for over 25 years, he knows me and my kids. I hate to change doctors at this point. Thankfully, I don't have to see him very often. SO goes to a Well Med clinic ( they have a contract with the VA system, military) so that where he goes, beats sitting in a military hospital. But all he gets to see is the nurse & PA, and most of the time doesn't even gets to see the doctor. He goes in every 3 month for his routine blood work, ( diabetes) and the PA does everything.

I never wait at my internist's office either or even the rheumatologist's office. I see the PA there.

I ALWAYS wait 30-60 minutes after my scheduled appt. time at my doctors ....the whole time people come in and are called!!!!

When you call to schedule appt. they ask what it is for to judge the time dr. will spend with you but I think something is wrong and the waiting is always longer than the visit ....GGRRRRRRR

We have signs posted that if you've been waiting for 30+ mins to notify the receptionist. In general, I'd say that our patients tend to be very understanding if our doctors are running late or get stuck in the OR. The patients realize that they are Neurosurgeons & that emergencies do arise which we can't control. We try to catch people before they leave for their appointments if at all possible, some patients will wait it out and others will reschedule.

I almost never wait at my regular dr. office, but I am currently procrastinating getting a new gyno b/c the last one did this every time. I know it's only once a year, but two hours waiting is two hours I could be doing something else.
I'm out of bed, and dressed what more do you want?

I know they are constantly overbooked and emergencies happen, that's why I go after very early morning appointments at my PCP's office. My rheumatologist is always on time but you can wait 6 months for the appointment!

Maybe we should start billing them, for our time!

I had this happen a few times while I was waiting for OB appointments, and honestly I was a bad patient to begin with, but this put me over the edge. I went to the window 5 times, and reminded them that my appointment was 20 minutes, 30 minutes...... They did not like having to deal with me, so finally they said the Dr. decided to go home after his surgery this morning and we need to cancel the rest of the day. So, there I sat, mad and tired, and still 8 months pregnant. I went back to the window and demaded to se a doctor. I was not going to drive home and have to come back just to get my belly measured, and to pee in a cup! Anyway, I have not been back there since the birth of my almost 2 year old DD.

My child has an appointment on Monday with a doctor that ALWAYS leaves us waiting for no less than an hour. Once we get in a room, it is usually at least another half hour. I hate going there but he is a really good dermatologist.
