  • Pug has mast cell tumor on shoulder

Can have vet remove it. Deciding whether to have trained oncology vet do it. It is bleeding. Could be benign but read most are malignant.
    Anyone deal with this?

Our vet removed a cancerous tumor from our yellow lab back in early 80's. he thankful got all of the tumor and the only thing we noticed that the skin in that area turned black. Bingo went on to live to be 24yrs!!
          prayers to your pug!!

Thanks, folks. Decided to stay with regular vet. Will see what happens after surgery.
He is such a good dog.

Mommyx2 - Don't you mean your yellow lab lived to 14 years and not 24??

smokey... I know you've already made your decision and it's what I was going to suggest as well. Vets are trained for most things and in this case they will most likely do what a specialist would do... remove or biopsy the tumor and send it away for testing.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I'll keep watching for an update.

What exactly does a " wise " dog mean ? I have never heard of dog living to be 24 years old. My last black lab lived to be 16 years old when we has to put her down and the Vet told me that big dogs don't usually live that long.

when I was growing up we had a golden cocker spaniel named Ruff. He was an adult dog when Dad brought him home and I found out years later that he helped his sister when she was unable to keep him. He went on the train to where she lived and brought Ruff home in his bag. Ruff lived for a very long time... more than 20 years. Some dogs just don't seem to know when they are meant to go.

We rescued a maltese terrier that we named Kelly and I'm not sure she was "wise" but she was a very knowing dog. She knew when I was sad and she knew when I was sick and often nuzzled into the area where I felt bad... if I had a headache or a backache, she knew.
