  • September 22nd Dinner Post

    Good Morning!

It is overcast and raining along with heavy rain predicted off and on all day. The high will be 72 and the high of 50.

I am running some errands and grocery shopping so I am not sure what dinner will be.

What will be your dinner this evening?
Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,
He drew a circle that shut me out.
But love and I had the wit to win,
We drew a circle that took him in.

Oh my word yesterdays 15 bean soup came out so good, I could eat that daily! Making chicken and dumplings I think, or chicken noodle soup.

muzette... does that mean there are 15 different bean varieties in your soup?

John cooked pork today so for dinner we had a bread roll with hot pork.

For supper I think we'll have chocolate. Just kidding, we haven't got any. That's what I would have if it was in the house. I'll probably make a smoothie

Not a clue what I will fix this evening but will likely fix a salad for myself. I am dog sitting for my daughter and the dogs have been up to mischief today with mine being the instigator. I have run up and down the freeway today and need to do so again tomorrow. TV tonight for entertainment.

It’s been cool and cloudy all day and we got some light sprinkles when we went to the Costco in Burlington. We came home with a carload today and a much smaller checking account balance. We bought some outdoor lights, a heater for the garage, some flannel shirts for Ken and some nice new bathroom rugs. I was going to buy a couple of tri-tips but damn, those suckers were $12.99 per pound! So was flank steak. I bought 2 really nice pork loins that I’ll slice, seal and freeze into boneless pork chops and they were on $2.99 a pound. I don’t see us eating a lot of beef for awhile!

We’re having more of the Sicilian Meat Sauce (pork) over bow tie pasta and we’ll have a salad with it. W

I searched a recipe for 15 bean soup and turns out that the 15 beans are sold in a bag and used as soup mix. We don't have that but I was interested in making the soup. It sounds nice and I have most of the ingredients for it, except for the beans.

It appears that beans are not sold in dried form here with the exception of Borlotti beans that are mainly bought by people making bean bags for children's games. I will need to buy a can each of the beans that are already soft. I'm going to try it. Thank you for posting about it...

I have never made that soup, but I see the dry beans in a bag all the time in the bean aisle. Not sure beans in a can would come out the same way ???

not in our supermarkets... maybe in a specialised deli or similar. Dried beans are just not a 'thing' in Australia. Maybe Costco have them but the nearest Costco is outside our 20km limit for driving. I'll keep the recipe and have a go in Winter, 2022.

The vegetables I have and want to use up can go into Minestrone soup so I'll make that...

You're probably right, Sabine. I've never bought dried beans for cooking... only for making bean bags for the children. As I said, I'll just make minestrone in the meantime...
