  • College acceptances...

A friends son got an acceptance letter for a college he wanted to go with full scholarship, everybody was happy. Mom called up there to ask some questions, and seems he's not accepted. Their system was hacked into and letters were sent to alot of applicants (they wouldn't say how many) that were accepted but the school didn't bother to tell anyone. Now he is mad at the world because he turned down a couple of other schools.

The computer age can be a curse as well as a blessing.

That really stinks! Its kind of scary that the hackers probably had access to a lot of personal information too.
Hopefully he can go to one of the schools he turned down without any problems.

That is terrible. I am so sorry. I hope everything works out. I always try to remember everything happens for a reason. Hopefully he can go to one of the other schools he initially turned down.

That is awful! I know what a pain it is just to get your kid there, let alone be "fooled" like that. Just rotten!

Like shadow, I believe everything happens for a reason.

That really sucks. On a similar note, it also sucks about what happened to all of those high school seniors with finding out that there were some mistakes in how their SAT exams were scored (apparently because rainy and humid conditions did something to the paper or something) and they ended up getting scores a lot less than they would have otherwise and then these students had the headache of trying to recover their "real scores" in time to apply for college.

This year seems like a really bad year for high school seniors entering college.

That is just a shame ...I can imagine how awful that must be ...and the schools need to get some better software to safeguard students personal information! that is criminal.

Cat, I remember hearing something about that on the radio awile back. I thought they said they had contacted everyone. That is really a dirty shame. Thank goodness the mom called to ask some questions or they still wouldn't have found out. I hope everything works out for him. Please keep us posted.

That is so sad! I have always said that when things dont work out the way we expect them to, its because God has something else in mind for us. But it really can be frustrating when you think something is "in the bag" and it gets snatched away from us suddenly. Its like...what was that all about? That poor kid!

While I feel bad for the high school stidents that got shafted by computers being hacked into, they have a lifetime to regain and recoup. What about the millions of Veterans who are hanging out there with all of their personal medical and financial information being bantered about? Because someone took the software home and it just happened to be stolen? I would not trust anything important to a computer. I have old fashioned filing cabinets with hanging file folders and locks.

What a heartbreaking situation. Hopefully this can be turned around and something good come from it. I'm so sorry!
