February 4th Dinner Post

Good Morning!

We are back into a repeat of being buried under over a foot of snow and ice under all of that. Getting the front and back door open was a major challenge even with the roofs and one of the porches having 2 sides protected. The high will be a frigid 19 and the low of 4 with the wind chill putting us below 0 and with 25 mph wind gusts we will be in the single digits for a high.

Salmon patties, baked sweet potatoes and roasted broccoli will be dinner.

What will be your Friday night dinner?

I put together a dinner for my neighbor and family yesterday and they will pick up today. Italian sauce with sweet Italian sausage, chicken, mushrooms and green peppers with garlic bread, broccoli salad and key lime pie. I made enough for myself and husband so 'it's what's for dinner!"

Cold and rainy but no ice like other parts of the country. Good day to stay inside.

Working on a menu for a Winter Tea I will be hosting for our neighborhood ladies the end of the month. There are only ten houses plus an original farmhouse in our neighborhood, so I expect around 6 attendees. I will have 4 mini desserts, scones, clotted cream, jam, 4 mini sandwiches (different), small bowl of tomato basil soup, non-alcoholic mimosas, hot tea of course and coffee service, a small fruit cup topped with raw sugar for crunch. Everything in miniature. I love decorating the table and have a large tablecloth in blue with snowflakes plus dishes that happen to match. Ought to be a gab fest!!

Forgot one more thing for the tea - I have amuse bouche spoons that I will put an herb stuffed peppadew pepper on - it is just one bite.

I have no idea what those spoons are but it all sounds great. Menu is great, a lot of work for you, but I think you enjoy doing it.
If I remember correctly you have posted about hosting a tea like that before.

Seems like a good day to try something new. Making egg rolls and if there is filling left over spring rolls. Tempura chicken and veggies with sweet and sour.

Sabine - I had a tea when Harry and Meghan got married in 2018. My guests had to be at my house by 6 AM because the wedding was at 11 AM in England. My menu isn't quite the same but a good variety. An amuse bouche spoon (the ones I have) have the handle bent back on itself with the bowl of the spoon towards you with a small morsel. It is supposed to give you a taste of what is to come. Plus, I will have little gift bags with some chocolates inside for everyone to take home. I do like doing this stuff because I already have a lot of the dishes - might as well put them to good use.

Thats right, it was the wedding, and with the time difference your guests had to be very early . And didn't you also wear fancy hats , what are they called fascinators or something like that, I could be very wrong about that

Yes, they are fascinators but only 2 of my guests had hats for the wedding. No hats required for my Winter Tea.

Very cool and kind of windy with light sprinkles today. I did see a harbinger of Spring this morning though, we had so many birds in our backyard having a feast of worms and other bugs in the grass. I counted about 12 Varied Thrushes, about 10 Chickadees and at least 4 Robins. I’d never seen the Thrushes before, the were very pretty. We did a quick Walmart run this afternoon to pick up some necessities.

We’re having more meatloaf and we’ll have some cheesy scalloped potatoes with it.

I had these spoons at Crown Casino when Tiff graduated from their training program. They were so good and very fancy. Well done with your winter party, Vera. I'm sure your guests will be very impressed.

Crappy day and evening yesterday but enough said about that. We all have crappy days to endure. I did cook dinner, mainly because I had already thawed out the meat. We had crumbed lamb ribs which is one of our favourite meals and one of very few meal we both share.

Tiff sold some more of the furniture that we don't need and is due to be picked up within the hour. I'm so close to finishing the packing that I can almost taste the victory. Just awaiting delivery of some clothing bags and that's the end. I'm letting Tiff take our freezer this weekend as her little freezer died a few days ago. She can have whatever food we haven't used. I can manage with the freezer at the top of the fridge for the remaining time we are here.
