We are dealing with flying squirrels....it is absolutely awful! They chewed down in our kitchen ceiling and invaded my cupboard above fridge where I keep pasta, and some baking stuff. We have set traps. Caught a few...boarded up holes, taken food away etc. Now we just went out for a few hours and there's another hole chewed threw in the ceiling. I know they are hard to get rid of. This is just crazy! Anyone else deal with this before?

How big are they, MudderBear? Small like a mouse or big like a rat? Sounds like serious damage to your kitchen...

Have you considered hiring a professional pest control company who specializes in getting rid of flying squirrels ? We have never dealt with flying squirrels, but we did have a rodent in our attic. We have a 2 story house, and at night we could hear some creature running around in the attic. To make a long story short, they could not find the animal, but they found the entrance / hole where the animal got into the attic. That was closed up . And we found out the hard way that the animal got trapped in the attic and somehow got into a wall space and died there. It smelled for a few days, not too bad. And that was the end of it. No problems since.
But this flying squirrel you are dealing with is causing a lot of damage and with the cold weather coming , well they want to stay in your attic. I would get some professional help. Worth the cost.

WOW that sounds awful. I would be livid. We don't have them around here. Never seen one, and don't want to! Guess I would Google how to repel them. Hope they leave your house immediately!

they are bigger than a mouse...I would say about chipmunk size....not as big as a rat.

They sound kinda cute but not when they eat your house... that wouldn't be cool at all. I've only seen one squirrel and that was outside The Alamo in Texas and it was smaller than I thought they would be. It was rifling through a public rubbish bin looking for food...

Good luck with trying to lure the outside.

I would go to Home Depo and buy a couple of squirrel have a heart traps
Add some delicious peanut butter to lure them into the trap
Take the trap w the squirrels and take them for a l o n g ride
I do this w squirrels all the time
I like to take them to heavy wooded areas

oh we have the traps! just when we hope that we 'may' have got them all, there's more...apparently they hang out in big groups, lol. And I've been reading up on them, and did find that yes, you do need to take them for a l o n g ride! I read that you need to take them at least 5 miles away! Also read today that you can use mothballs and dryer sheets to repel, I will try anything at this point. Now there is a horrible smell in laundry room/kitchen area, I'm guessing poo & pee. UGH. And my DS told me last week that my washing machine was smelling...I could smell it today, seemed that it was coming from the drum, but I figured it was from around the drum, so maybe squirrels have got in there somehow? frig! Anyway, I did a fill up of hot water, vinegar, baking soda run thru a cycle.

We once had a raccoon get into the attic. We were able to trap him and release into an area suitable to the annimal.

We've had raccoon issues before as well,,,they are way more easier to deal with. Had them right IN THE HOUSE! They chewed thru basement window screens and came right up stairs...that was a fright for me that night while I was on couch reading my book! Momma and 3 babies. I screamed and hubby came running out of bedroom, grabbed Momma by scruff and she she peed and pooped all the way out of house, babies followed her out...hubby was not bit but scratched up, sure could have been worse!

You should check if your home owners would cover the damage. I know here squirrels, racoons and bat damage is covered but not mice or rats.

Find out where they are able to come in. Close up the holes, otherwise this will be a problem continuously.
