  • October 28th Dinner Post

    Good Morning!

It is cloudy at the moment, but the sun should play peek a boo off and on today. The high will be 58 and the low of 36. The leaves are falling so fast that the ground looks like a carpet of color while some of the trees are being stubborn and holding onto their leaves.

I am solo tonight so will just check out the fridge an if all else fails the gourmet peanut butter, toast and an apple will suffice.

What food is tempting you for your dinner?
Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,
He drew a circle that shut me out.
But love and I had the wit to win,
We drew a circle that took him in.

My daughters dog is coming over while she goes on a trip for a few days. Our dogs play like idiots non stop when they get together so this will be interesting.

I had four beef shanks in the freezer so we are having osso buco tonight. I just haven't decided if I will make it in the oven or the instant pot.

It is sunny and 36 at the moment. Thankfully the wind has died down.
Thanks to Charlene Joe is having liver & onions fried potatos and will finish off last of the beets from the garden. I will rummage around for leftovers. Theres a couple things in there. I have not bought ice cream cause I gained 4 lbs so it just can't be here.

Joe’s dinner sounds good except for the beets rosie. Never have liked them and never will, but that’s what makes the world interesting. I can’t keep ice cream in the house either, I have absolutely no self control when it comes to that!

Beauty day here, sun is shining
I had planned to cook a little chicken/stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, carrots for our dinner but hubby said do something easy. I really don't mind, I was just wanting to make a decent dinner for him. But, seems that the pain meds percs & Celebrex are making him feel yucky, and not much appetite.Pain has hit the roof now...he just popped 3 percs and still so much pain Ugh. So, who knows what we'll have?

Mudder. What did he have done I his knee? I knew he was having surgery but didn't know what. Just really hurts my heart when I know someone is in pain. I'm so so sorry to hear that.

I despise beets too. I fix them for him he LOVES them. I planned on canning a bunch but our garden sucked so just pulled enough for a few meals at a time.

Rosie: had he what is called an Oxford knee replacement, it is a partial replacement of area where arthritis has invaded the worst. The swelling/bruising has set in big time now, and wound just started to leak some blood after he got up on his crutches to use bathroom....I damn near freaked out lol! And the wound is not covered by a typical bandage, it is covered with a fibre glass type of bandage, so you can see as nothing is covering( there are no sutures or staples, and it is waterproof, so able to shower...maybe this is a common thing these days, but new to me!) All of a sudden I've become squeamish, and worried that I'm not going to be a good enough care giver.

MudderBear, When I had my knee replacement they used the same kind of bandaging on it. Definitely not for the faint of heart! Is he putting ice packs on it, that will help and so will keeping it elevated.

It’s been a really pretty day out, a little cool but thankfully no wind. It’s amazing what a few days of rain could do to my lawns, they were ugly dead brown before and now they’re greening up nicely. I got the old freezer restocked and made an inventory list for it too this afternoon, it makes me feel so organized now! I also got a few more things put in the hazardous waste box and some other garage stuff into the trash and also paid some bills.

I’m doing a no brain dinner tonight. I’m heating up some Aidell’s chicken teriyaki and pineapple meatballs and a package of teriyaki udon noodles with Asian vegetables that I picked up at Costco. I’ll have a Chobani Flips yogurt key lime crumble for dessert. I love those!

OMGOODNES Mudder. Ugh. I feel sure you will be an excellent care taker. After all no one loves him like you do. I haven't had any experience with that kind of bandage. Mom had both knees replaced. We girls took care of her first one she stayed in hospital for therapy the 2nd one. I pray everything goes well!

Charlene: I had no idea bandaging was like that. Trying to elevate, and doing ice packs...in so much pain. Usually hubby can tolerate a lot of pain. This is awful. And there still is some blood seepage....our DIL is a nurse and she spoke with us...she told us that, that is a rare thing...ugh. we bundled up his knee again to apply pressure and I told hubby...DO NOT MOVE lol...god I hope everything will be ok

Rest assured, you will do just fine!! It's scary sometimes, but just being there and giving what moral support you can, goes a long way to help him!! We all would heal our mates if we could, but that is God's job, not ours!!!

If Joe loves beets, he should try them the Australian way. I found a recipe for them:

It's easy to make pickled beetroot at home with this simple recipe. Serve them as part of a cheese board when entertaining.
Effort only fully releases its rewards after a person refuses to quit.
