  • November 13th Dinner Post

And the snow is coming down heavy in the form of huge snowflakes that have house tops, tree branches and the ground covered. It is making me feel like I should just crawl back into bed and snuggle for a couple more hours with a good book. The high of 39 and the low of 30 with a brisk wind makes it feel colder. A good day for staying inside.

I have enough stuffed peppers and rice leftover from last night that will become stuffed pepper soup, rolls that will become garlic bread and baked apples that all will make for a comfort food dinner.

What will be your Sunday dinner?

Yesterday we drove to another town called Elizabeth to meet Julia and Hannah. We had lunch in the food court. Not great food by any means but it was lovely to play with Hannah for a while. It was pouring with rain outside so we decided to stay put until the rain finished, but instead the rain came through the ceiling of the building! We could see what was happening but we were safe. Announcements over the loudspeaker said to please not panic, stay in the building and move away from the damaged roof. Nothing makes people panic like an announcement to say "don't panic". The storm went for over an hour and trees were uprooted all over Adelaide. Roads flooded, emergency vehicles with sirens were going every which way. We stayed at the shopping centre until the wind settled down and then headed home. Rained again today so we just stayed home. I finished restoring two more Cabbage Patch Kids... they look amazing. They are not considered 'finished' until they are dressed, hair fixed, surgery done (any stitched joints that have broken), shoes and socks.

I've done all my Christmas shopping... on night online. Now I just wait for the parcels to be delivered. We are giving Hannah a pram and cot for her new doll that Santa is bringing her. I suspect that she will have more fun running the pram into our legs... She's a rough player thanks to having an older brother. Andrew is getting some Where's Wally books because he loves them so much. They are the same as your Where's Waldo books. Don't know why the name was changed for North America. John is getting a new Lego train for his train set. Immy is getting three Lego sets. We've got Hannah's birthday next... 5 days and her gift hasn't yet arrived... I bought my sister some more Lemax buildings for her collection.

Dinner tonight: lamb chops... John had peas, cauliflower fries (airfried) and onion. I had my chop with alfalfa and cauliflower fries

I expected to wake up to a winter wonderland this morning, but not so...chilly tho, and hubby had the woodstove filled and it was so nice and cozy to wake up to.
I put a little maple ham in the oven and we will have mashed potatoes and carrots alongside.

Chayote: great for you for having finished your Christmas shopping! Normally I have pretty much everything under control at this point, but we only just picked the names for our family gift exchange the other day. We only buy one gift each and of course will probably get Kian something. I still stuff stockings for our 4 'kids'...have started to pick up little items, but have to scale waaaay back as money is very tight with no income in months

Talking about the " where is Waldo " books ...... Challenging Where's Waldo?[edit]

The book has been challenged in libraries and schools because of a topless woman near the upper right of the "On the Beach" scene.

It ranks Easy Peach Cobbler on the American Library Association's "100 Most Frequently Challenged Books" list (1990-1999)[2] because of the exposed breast.
        • The woman is wearing a bikini top in the 1997 special edition release.
        • A similar incident occurs in "The Campsite" where children open a tent on a man while he is undressing.
        • In the original, although his genitals are blocked from view by his hand, he is clearly naked. In the 1997 special release, however, he is wearing white briefs.
        • Another example of this is in a "Sports Stadium" where a man is seen naked, with a number covering his privates. In the special edition, he was given underwear
This book was very popular when I was working in the school library, especially by little boys , come to think of it.
My co- worker and I were called to the principals office one day and she asked us if we knew about this, no we didn't , I don't think either one of us ever looked through the book. Long story short , a grandparent complained to the principal about the book and requested that it would be removed from the school library. We had several different " where is waldo " books on the shelves. Had to remove all of them, because ONE grandparent got upset. I guess these days nobody would be upset considering what goes on in our country. Man become women and have babies , or so they claim, drag queens dance in schools , anything goes. What a change in 20 years , and not a change for the better.
Better check those books you got for Andrew Chayote.

I’ve got to say I am so sick of books being challenged! I read a list of the most often banned books for schools and I’ve read every one of them. My high school literature teacher assigned Brave New World for me to read and do a book report on. I got an A+ on that one. My parents never told me I couldn’t read whatever I wanted to and this helped me develop into an avid reader at a very early age. I used to save my allowance to buy books.

It’s another beautiful day! It looks like there will be good weather for the trip south, very glad about that. I’m pretty much all set to leave tomorrow morning, the car is packed except for the dog bed, small ice chest and last minute toiletries. It all fit in there nicely, better than expected. I got the house dusted and switched out my sheets to the fleece ones for when I get back to my cold house. No point in leaving the furnace on! I even ran a cleaning cycle on my coffee pot because I won’t be drinking coffee in the morning, too many potty stops! I’ll take a caffeine tablet instead, they always work.

I’m going to have 2 Trader Joe’s green chile and cheese tamales tonight. Easy to fix, tasty and they don’t make a mess. I’ll have some yogurt for dessert.

Thanks LTB! I’ll be staying with my son, he’s flying up in the morning so I won’t be driving alone. I’ll pick him up in Seattle on my way south. He’ll come back up with me and I’ll drop him off at the airport on the way home so he can fly back. Should be a fun trip. We’re definitely stopping in Corning CA to shop at The Olive Pit Store. Got to stock up on cases of their green ripe olives, they are divine! Also stopping to visit a friend from high school that lives in Corning.

You are welcome. It sounds like a wonderful trip for both of you and I think it is something that you need and will find it relaxing and enjoyable. Enjoy the visit with your friend and of course the olives!!!!

Well I don’t know about relaxing! My son and DIL have 8 dogs, 6 are big ones and I’ll have Abby with me. Pretty sure I’ll be exhausted when I get back, but it will be fun.

I wouldn't expect Andrew to think anything of the pictures you described. If naked pictures are in a Where's Wally book, the pictures are just cartoons and as tiny as Andrew's little fingernail. He won't care, I won't worry about it and either will his parents.

Since we left Melbourne I've decided to scale back on the number of gifts we gave to friends there. I give money to Tiff and Charlie so they can decide how to spend it. I always ask Julia for suggestions for Andrew and Hannah and she didn't let me down. I love that you still give our children gifts in their stockings and I'm sure they look forward to receiving them. Children in Australia leave a Santa bag out for their gifts rather than stockings. When I was a child, we left out a pillow case. I made Santa bags for Immy, Andrew and Hannah and appliqued their names across them.

I'm sorry you're going through a difficult time financially...
