  • We made it tovBodfish CA!

Busy day yesterday! We left Yreka CA in the morning and met up with my high school friend Al in Corning CA at The Olive Pit and had a nice long chat. Al brought me my BFF’s high school annuals that he got from her before she died. My 1963 annual disappeared some years back and I really wanted one again. While we were in there a man came up and asked Al if he’d served on submarines (he had some kind of sticker and a hat he’d left in his car) and we all got in to a long conversation. I said I lived in WA, Al said he lived in town and Steve said he lived in Bodfish CA. The guy said he lived in Redondo Beach CA. We cracked up, showed him the annual from the high school in Redondo, told him that at one time we’d ALL lived there and Steve grew up there. What are the chances of 4 people meeting up in the middle of nowhere with that in common? It was really pretty cool.

The rest of the trip was uneventful, and we got to Bodfish at 6:30 pm. I’ll tell you what, I’d be hesitant to drive through the Kern River canyon in broad daylight, much less at night! Steve handled in like a pro though. We had dinner and then Kim and I stayed up until 2 am talking, it was really nice.

Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,
He drew a circle that shut me out.
But love and I had the wit to win,
We drew a circle that took him in.

That sounds like fun. Were the roads windy or crazy bridges?

There are dozens of very sharp turns, some up to 270° in places. It’s a two lane road, steep inclines, with a raging river on one side and steep stone cliffs with a lot of rock and boulder fall on the other. Add to that, it’s really freakin’ dark! It’s got great reflectors and Botz Dots, but it’s not a road for the faint of heart.
