I was cleaning out a cupboard and saw a box in the back and my heart skipped a beat and I got so excited and yes!!! it was my recipe box that I started at 11, when I first really started cooking and baking. My first really big item was a turkey, and I was only 11. Well, that stopped my cleaning for over 2 hours as I now had decades of cooking and memories that totally needed remembered and reading. What a change in food, methods and just some good old- fashioned meals, some of which I still do today and some I was so upset because I just could not find the box. I totally kissed it like a lost child and hugged it tight. The ones that were and still are the best and favorite are in front of the box and after I add some more, I have the box and overflow that will be put in a gallon zip lock bag so it will be all together and safe. I could get a bigger box I suppose but I want the one I bought at Everett's Five and Dime. Sandy was the daughter of the parents that owned the store and had long red hair and the cash register was a huge gold ornate one that you pushed down each key for the item that was being bought, hit the total button and even figured out how much the change was. Nothing computerized. Now those were the days!!!
