December 18th Dinner Post

Sabine - I completely forgot there are no basements in Texas. I should have known better since my son moved there. It was hard getting used to just two floors. Where do you put your boxes that you still need to unpack?? Well, luckily, they have a four-car garage and that was a life saver. When a basement is finished, I call it the lower level. I have only lived in two houses since I was married ions ago, and we finished both 'lower levels" - lol.

No, basements in Texas, at least not in the area we live in. I doubt anywhere in Texas. We have a large attic, actually we have thought about having it renovated and make it a big room , play room , pool table etc. But at this point in our lives, we are thinking more of downsizing and moving into a retirement community in the future.
No basements , but a lot of people have pools. We had a pool in our other house, and we loved it. I miss the pool. We live in a cul de sac , 11 houses, and 6 pools.

It’s been cold all day, with some light snow flurries throughout the day. I imagine they’ll start sticking to the ground later this evening. I posted 2 little videos on Facebook of Mendi watching the flakes come down, and trying to bat at them through the glass. I got things dusted and vacuumed today and had a nice visit with the mom of the kids that take my trash out for me.

I’m going to fry a cube steak in Dixie Fry and I’m going to turn my leftover baked potato into home fries and I’ll have some asparagus with it.

Sabine - When pipes run through unheated space and there is water in the pipes, when water freezes, it expands and breaks or splits the pipes. We have cold winters in Virginia and some of our outside spigot pipes run through the garage attic, which is unheated, therefore you have to drain those pipes before there is a freeze. No need to use the outside hoses until spring when we turn the water back on. Hope that helps.

Before food is served at Christmas, I will take pictures and hopefully it will look festive.

Thank you Vera, makes sense. We don't have any pipes running through our attic in this house, it's all coming through the slab. But we do disconnect the outdoor hoses and cover the spigots with foam covers. If it is really cold, way below freezing , which doesn't happen very often , thank goodness , we drip the faucets in the house and open the cabinet doors so that there is heat going to the pipes underneath the sinks etc.

You are way ahead of me Vera, I still don't understand the reason, but that is ok.
Vera, I hope you will post a picture of your Christmas table setting , I am sorry you didn't post the other table setting, I always enjoy looking at your pictures. And judging by how many people view your post, so do many other people.

I live on the coast and at times we need to turn the water off overnight. The turnoff is easy to locate but I think my son-in-law will come and wrap the outside faucets for me. I am lucky to have kids that live near me.

I have heard of people turning the water to their house off if they go on a trip and don't want to take a chance of a water pipe breaking etc. and flooding their house. But if you are home you need to have water running, how else would you flush your toilet , cook or wash your dishes ? I lived in Kansas for several years with lots of snow and ice and very cold temps, never turned the water off.

MommaBear - Are you saying you have to turn off your water INSIDE your house because it is freezing OUTSIDE. I have never heard of such a thing if you have a furnace for the house. Or do you have a wood stove for interior heat? Or perhaps your water pipes are too close to an exterior wall. Good luck staying warm.

We are supposed to have freezing weather so pipes will need to be wrapped and I will need to turn off the water inside. I hate winter anymore and I live in the south. At my age I’m am just not excited about this time of the year.

Holy snowly has fallen again overnight! It is just soooo pretty out there...hoping it will stick around til Christmas.
We are headed out to SIL & BIL family Christmas party this aft. I am bringing a croc pot of sweet & sour meatballs. I just love these pot luck gatherings when there is always such a great selection of yummy finger foods That will be our dinner, I'm sure.

John had a pork burger but I didn't have an rolls so I made it in bread. I had leftover spaghetti which I'm tired of after three meals in a row. Hopefully I can do better tomorrow. Fresh fruit and veg are being delivered tomorrow morning so that's a sign that tomorrow's dinner will be more interesting.

It is overcast. and pellets of snow have been floating down since yesterday, so the roof tops and cars have about an inch coverage. The high will be 30 and the low of 25 along with 3-6 inches of snow expected.

I have potatoes leftover from last night that will become potato patties, sausage, applesauce, and green beans.

What will be your Sunday dinner?
