  • January 15th Dinner Post

    Good Morning!

There is a bright orb in the sky that is making the landscape just sparkle like diamonds with the snow covering so many surfaces. The high today will be 35 and the low of 27 with a clear sky at the moment.

I am making BBQ pork sandwiches with some of the leftover pork along with slaw and sweet potato fries.

What have you decided on for your Sunday meal?
Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,
He drew a circle that shut me out.
But love and I had the wit to win,
We drew a circle that took him in.

Your meal sounds great. I have pork ribs I will thaw this week and drop in a crockpot with barbeque sauce. I do that easy meal on occasion.

Yikes! It's a;ready the middle of January! Time is sure flying by.
Another glorious sunny day here for us. DD & SIL came by for a little visit before they head back to city.
I put a small roast beef in the oven, will toss in some carrots and taters later
A balanced diet is a cookie in both hands

It’s cold and wet today, good day to stay in and stay warm! I stayed up way too late last night, I watched the movie Titanic and would you believe it’s the first time I’d ever seen it? Not sure why I missed it, but I really enjoyed it very much. I got 2 new notifications for outing with the MeetUp group, one to go to a new in town Thai restaurant on February 2nd, and another for a dinner at a Chinese restaurant and then go see A Man Called Otto on January 23. I’m going to do both of them, a good chance to try places I haven’t been to!

I’m going to have the rest of the Italian sausage ravioli in doctored up marinara and some cucumber salad for dinner.

Charlene - Glad you are able to join this group. How do you handle the bill at the end of your meal? Not sure how many ladies are attending but there always seems to be one that orders more expensive food and when the bill comes, the bill is split evenly. If there are five or six of you, a waitress wouldn't want to keep track of all individual bills. Just curious how that works.

Vera, the times that I have gone out to lunch with a group , everybody paid for their meal , drinks , dessert etc. Yes, sometimes the wait staff does not want to keep track , or write out several bills. I have found that some places put everything on one bill and then when you get to the cashier , you just tell them what you had and they sort it out. Splitting the bill does not work for most people , in my experience. Some people have a glass of wine, but not everybody, some have dessert but not everybody, and some just have a salad. We just tell the waitstaff that we have separate bills ,that way they know ahead of times, no problem.

We just had separate checks which was fine with me. I prefer paying cash in restaurants, some pay by credit card.

That is good that you can pay separately. Actually, the waitress probably makes more in tips with individual bills rather than just one bill. Sounds like you are going to have a good time with this group. Is there one person who organizes the get togethers such as the movies and lunch or do you take turns planning the next event.? How often do they get together - once a month, every other week? If you count everyone, how many are in the group? Granted, not everyone attends all events. Sounds like you will have a great time and a sense of belonging since you are by yourself now. Enjoy.

Since COVID, cash has become almost obsolete in Australia. There are some shops that refuse to take cash... Tiff was buying Immy a smoothie when they were out with us and the seller told her that they don't accept cash. She had to pay credit card for a $4 smoothie...

From what I understand, any of the members can organize an event. Some things are held in public places, other things are held in members homes. They do get together every month but they can be held more often. I’m not sure how many members there are yet. They do sound like ladies that want to do things, and I was looking for that.

I have meals planned for the next week which is unusual for me. Nothing like a heatwave to get housework done because I don't want to even open the front door. It was quite pleasant yesterday but we still didn't go out so I just kept cleaning. Only have the skirting boards left to do.

We had meat pies and vegetables for dinner. The pies are made locally and are a good source of protein and all they needed was heating. I have a new three-shelf fan-forced toaster oven and that's where the pies went. That left the airfryer free for the potatoes. It was an easy meal. I'll just get around all the shortcomings of this house and then it will be time to move again...
