When an Australian Football League player retires and was a champion player for the Sydney Swans team, they get to travel to each state and hold a dinner with fans who get a chance to ask him any questions and have professional photos taken. AFL is, I'm guessing, what you would call the "major league" football. John was supposed to go with our eldest daughter, Julia but she had to bow out because of a meeting at Andrew's school.
I went with him and went out of my way to get John and I the latest in the fans polo shirts but I decided to stay out of the photo. I was happy to admire the view while the photos were being taken, if you get my drift. The retiring player was Josh Kennedy, the one on the right. He still has a body to admire. The other player is Nick Malceski who is Josh's best friend and a player who retired last year. Both players were lovely and especially kind to John. We didn't want him to have his walker in the photo so the players made sure he didn't fall. Almost made me wish I had gone in the photo so they could have supported me in the same way...
Briefly Josh had his shirt off to change into one of his match guernsey and everyone there cheered... *LOL* ...well the women cheered, not so much the men. Let's just say it was enjoyable evening and it had nothing to do with the food served. When the meal was finished, Nick came over and talked to John for a little while... he was stoked.
