I've been craving devilled eggs for awhile, and thought I'd make a bunch up for a side on our Easter dinner table. What is your 'must' add to the mix? I cannot add mustard because a family member has an allergy to turmeric.

I keep mine simple as a lot of people are picky about what they want so I just do mayo, mustard, salt and pepper. I have put a little bit of creamy horseradish, and I mean a little, a little cocktail sauce, not much when I have been out of mustard for a bit of umph and flavor. I never had anyone complain about using either one but then again, I just used small amounts until I got where the filling tasted not so bland. I have also used ranch dressing when I was low on mayo because of seasoning in it for more taste and once I was low on mayo and my only other option was creamy Italian dressing with the mayo and surprised myself with that one. Not a lot as it is liquidly, and I did not want soupy filling. Fresh chives are good in or on and as I grow my own, I cut the smaller stems as they blend in well or look pretty on top. I know people put a lot of items in theirs, but I just keep it simple.Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,

Crumbled bacon op top of the egg also adds a nice flavor and texture.Last edited by livetobake; 04-06-2023, 02:40 PM.Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,

Hello all!
We've been craving deviled eggs as well. They've just been almost $3.85-$4.50 a dozen on eggs here & thats a ridiculous amount to pay for them. But thats what i've been paying so oh well.
For deviled eggs you want that tang that the mustard gives, so if you arent able to use mustard in them then a little bit of vinegar will work in them to get that flavor/taste/zip but then if i do add vinegar then a little bit of sugar is added as well.
I've been known to put sweet relish in mine on ocassion.Otherwise I use Miracle Whip, mustard a sprinkle of sugar, salt & pepper & paprika.
You can use smoky paprika on them as well,I'd just would not use alot, just sparingly.Last edited by D'sMom; 04-07-2023, 04:09 PM.

Thanks ladies for your suggestions!
I whipped up the filling today and this is what I did....mayo, minced white onion, tiny bit of minced gherkin + bit of that brine, teeny bit of horseradish as it is the x-tra hot kind! and S&P. Was happy with the sampling taste test. Will check again tmo before filling and hope its fine. My only worry is that onion and horseradish may have become too strong over night. Oh well, I'm sure all the guy's will have had enough happy juice in them and not notice hahahaA balanced diet is a cookie in both hands

It has mustard in it Mudder. It is a mayo and mustard sauce with spices added in. You can google it and read the ingredients and that should give you an idea of the flavor.Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,
