  • April 2nd Dinner Post

    Good Morning!

It is dark, dreary, raining with a twist of a mixture of snow mixed in just for fun!! The high will be 43 and the low of 39.

Scalloped potatoes, ham, corn and Waldorf salad will be dinner.

What are you being enticed by for your dinner?
Heritic, rebel, a thing to flount,
He drew a circle that shut me out.
But love and I had the wit to win,
We drew a circle that took him in.

We had a great time today. It was Tuesday so John's poker day. School has gone back so we couldn't take Andrew with us for lunch. We left home earlier than usual so I could visit a couple of op shops. I found just what I needed to continue making the outfits for my Nativity bears. Also found some nice things that will suit the new house. In the second op shop I found the best bargain! It's a Wedgwood clock... I'll upload a photo. The pattern is called Clio and it's one of the more expensive range. It had $25 on it but the manager who was serving customers thought it was too expensive and gave it to me for $10. I would have paid the $25 but I wasn't going to argue. It wasn't working but it just needed a new battery.

After we'd finished at the Club we drove past our new house. The brickie was there but he couldn't start because the sand hadn't been delivered and then it started raining. He opened some of the pallets of bricks and placed them around the house ready to go. We then went to Julia's house for dinner. The children are always happy to see us. We had lamb cutlets and Julia made another new salad, this time pearl couscous with vegetables and a wonderful dressing. It's certainly a keeper. I have a container here now so it's looking good for lunch tomorrow.

I just want to nap with this cold dreary weather. Nothing fancy today just some sheet pan nachos.

It started out looking really dark and cloudy but it sure has cleared up this afternoon. I’ve been doing some busywork kind of stuff, washing sheets and towels, hung a couple of pictures in the guest room, glued a little shelf that some collector’s plates sit on so I can hang it tomorrow. My daughter-in-law Kim will be getting here next Monday and we’ve got some girl trip adventures planned, hopefully including a little road trip over to Montana. We’ll definitely be doing some sightseeing.

I’m going to cook up the rest of the carne asada and refried beans and make a little salad of shredded lettuce and homemade guacamole.

Chayote - I love the clock. And, boy, did you get a deal. I would have purchased the clock too in a heartbeat. I'm sure you will have the perfect spot for it in your new house.
Hopefully, next week you will see some progress on the brick on your house. That will give it a whole new look.

Dinner was just a dinner size salad with extra tomatoes, corned beef, pearl mozzarella and baby beets. Had slices of watermelon for dessert. The watermelon looked better than it tasted. I will wait for summer to buy any again. My husband and I have gotten hooked on fresh pineapple and I have some in the fridge so that will be on the table tomorrow.

Charlene - enjoy your trip. You will be in the state next to where I grew up - North Dakota.

Thank you Vera! I was born in Montana but had no memory of it at all. Ken and I made a few trips up there starting in 1984 and there is a lot of family history in the Anaconda and Philipsburg area, so we’ll go there and definitely Missoula and possibly Butte. I was hoping we could take WA Highway 20 across the Cascades but it hasn’t reopened yet and there’s still some danger of avalanches in the area. We’ll probably take Highway 2 and stop in Leavenworth on the way out. It is the coolest little town, it’s all German themed architecture and it’s so pretty there.

I've always liked the Clio range. I have a rectangular box to match this clock... it's in the garage in a crate somewhere. It will be like Christmas overload when we finally get to unpack our belongings.
