  • August 18th Dinner Post

    Good Morning!

I sat outside on the porch last night watching it rain, the light show and listening to the thunder. It was another heavy rain with the temperature dropping rapidly. It is sunny with a lovely high of 74 and the low of 56 for tonight.

Dinner will be leftovers and that makes for an easy meal.

    Your dinner will be?

The grandkids are coming for the weekend. I plan on club sandwiches and mac and cheese. The 4 yr old will probably just have a tomato sandwich. The only meat he will eat is hot dogs. I dont know why he is so weird with food. He refuses to eat mayo or cheese because "they make you fat." No clue where he heard it from but thankfully he doesnt count the cheese in mac and cheese as fattening.

Smart young one on the tomato sandwich. That is what I had for breakfast. A very thick slice of a beefsteak tomato that I picked this morning and ate within 2-3 minutes of picking. So dang good. Best part of my gardens. I planted 5 plants, and I am the one consuming them like I will die if I do not eat cherry tomatoes at the rate of 15-20 a day plus the big ones. I let the neighbor girl pick about 15 the other day and she did it in the rain as she has developed the same addiction for them as I have. Smart girl!

We had such a nice, relaxing day. I did some crochet and watched Manifest to the end of Season 3.

For dinner we had crunchy chicken with peas and carrots. John had baked potato and onion. I had corn and a cauliflower and broccoli gratin.

I thought I posted this earlier, must have fallen asleep!

Whooo, long day today! Got up at 4:30 am, put last items in travel bag, made a quick sandwich and hit the road for Seattle at 5:50 am. Easy traffic all the way down, found my reserved parking lot and got to the terminal with time to spare. I had a really nice flight, my seat mates were nice to talk to. I landed at LAX and was immediately reminded why I never flew out of there! That is the worst nightmare of an airport EVER! Then off to get my rental car, shuttle picked me up and I had to stand in line for an hour plus, even though I was prepaid. Ugh. I got to my hotel and my son Steve met me there and we drove over to the place I lived from 1971 to 1994. I raised my kids there, met Ken while I was living there and he moved in with me in 1975. We talked to the guy that owns the property filled in some history and showed him some old pictures and he was so happy to meet and talk about the place. He had rented it for about 15 years and the man that was my landlord sold it to him. We asked if I could scatter some of Ken’s ashes and he graciously allowed us free rein to do that and Steve and I were very grateful for that. Steve’s going to send him some pictures of when they were growing up and pictures of his kids dressed up for Easter. Jason (the new owner) was telling us that he had just taken pictures of his kids on the front porch just recently and Steve’s going to send him the one of his kids. All in all it was a lovely experience and I’m very grateful that he was open to it.

Steve and I went to Lazy Dog Bar & Restaurant for dinner with 2 of my classmates and had a lovely evening and I’ll see them again tomorrow. I had BBQ Bison Meatloaf (my favorite thing I used to order there) and I had a coupon for a free dessert that was big enough for all of us. I can honestly say Lazy Dog is the ONLY thing I miss about living down here! Steve left for home just a bit ago. Tomorrow I’m going to visit with my sister and go to the reunion, maybe drive around the area a bit. I am wiped out, I mean seriously eying my bed with longing eyes right now.

          Nighty night!!
