  • some good news...

No, nothing to do with the house, although the work is progressing well and it won't be too much longer before it's finished. We are very much looking forward to that day.

Yesterday we had an appointment with my surgeon and he's booked me in to a lovely private hospital for my knee replacement surgery. Although I'm not looking forward to the actual surgery, I'm relieved that it's being done. John's part of the appointment was news that he's been approved for surgeries to repair his legs that were badly broken in 1968. We joked with the surgeon that he should just put us both in a shared room and do the operations on the same day. The 'joke' quickly turned into reality and we are both being admitted on 14th September for our surgeries and we will both be going in rehab for about two weeks afterwards. 2023 will end with us living in our new home, me with a new knee and John well on the way to repairing the damage to both of his legs. His second surgery is booked in for 14th December so Christmas this year will be very different.

I have three weeks before admission so I'm going to keep packing items that we don't need until we are in the new house.

With everything that is going on in your lives and a doctor that actually listened, this is, indeed, good news.

My sister-in-law was told she needed knee replacement, but she didn't want to do it. She did some research and found a doctor in her state of Pennsylvania that did stem cell injections into the bad knee. My husband talked to her last weekend, and she said she can now climb stairs with no pain. Insurance does not cover the cost, so she paid out of pocket. This woman doctor has been doing this for 30 years with much success. She uses your own stem cells which sister-in-law said was a little uncomfortable (out of the hip) but she is thrilled with the outcome. It should last about 7 years. After that she may have to undergo another injection. Beats surgery and rehab. Each to their own.

I'm glad to hear you're both getting repaired, and will be in rehab. Hopefully you'll be able to help each other as you heal. Look out next summer you 2 will be out kickin up your heals

Thank you, Vera and rosie... interesting about the stem cells. We are set for our surgeries... have an appointment with the anaesthetist tomorrow and another appointment with the geriatrician, same building but four hours apart. We'll go somewhere for lunch between the two.

My girlfriend had her knee replacement done several years ago . She told me that she was in a lot of pain afterwards for several weeks, even after she got out of rehab. Her sister came and stayed with her until she was finally able to drive herself. I don't think that I would plan a surgery the exact same time my husband also had surgery , both people in rehab at the same time. Sounds good to get it all over with, but not realistic in my opinion , plus a move into the new house , good luck. But like you posted Vera, to each his own.
