I tried these last night. Very good!
I added 1 heaping T. crushed red pepper and chopped cilantro in with the batter. They were real good, but I think my avocado was a little too ripe. Next time I'd use one that was just beginning to turn color so it holds up better(nice and firm). They need a spicy salsa, cheese dip and/or hot sauce for dipping.
Beer-Battered Fried Avocado Wedges with Salsa
1 cup lager beer or ale (I used Pacifico)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon paprika
2 cloves garlic, chopped finely
2 California avocados
Vegetable oil as needed for deep frying
Salt as needed
1 cup salsa
To make beer batter, whisk together beer, flour, paprika, and garlic until well blended. Let stand at least 2 hours.
Peel avocados; cut each into 6 wedges. Dredge 6 wedges in reserved beer batter. Deep fry in hot oil until golden about 3 minutes. Repeat with remaining wedges.
Serve with salsa.
