BUTTER BUNS
¼ cup water, warm
1 TBS yeast
2 TBS sugar
1 cup milk, warm
¼ cup butter
1 egg, room temperature
1 tsp salt
3 cups bread flour
Additional butter
Dissolve yeast in warm water with sugar added. When foamy, mix with
warm milk, ¼ cup butter (I put butter in milk to soften), and egg. Add to
flour and salt. Mix until soft dough forms, knead lightly, dough needs to
stay soft. I mix the rolls in my food processor and do not knead it). Cover
and let rise in warm place for almost an hour (till doubled). Divide dough
into 12 pieces and as you shape into rolls, put a piece of butter inside
each roll. I use from ¼ to ½ pat of butter. Let rolls rise until doubled,
30-45 minutes.
Bake in a 350º oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Brush
with butter if you prefer a soft crust.
