This would make a great pastry crust for pot pies!

    Cayenne-Cheddar Pastry:

    2 c.all purpose flour
    1 1/2 tsp.salt
    1 1/2 tsp.cayenne
    1/4 lb.plus 3 Tbls.real butter
    1/4 c.grated sharp cheddar cheese
    3 Tbls.ice water

Sift flour, salt & cayenne together, work butter into the mixture until it is about the texture of cornmeal.Toss with Cheddar cheese & add the wate, mixing lightly with a fork til the dry mixture just holds together.Press together into a ball & chill for 30 minutes.

I made this yesterday making tomato pie. I had to add 2 to 3 more T. of water to the dough as it did not want to form a ball. I also left it in the fridge for an hour. This is a keeper. TY
