  • Multi Layer Chocolate Dessert

    This recipe is by special request for 4me2conly. I thought I posted it a long time ago, but I suppose I didn't.
    I have seen many varieties and this is my favorite, this is the one my mom made us. It is a very light dessert and very good. Liked by all walks of people especially people who don't like super sweet desserts.

    For those really creative:Last year I miniaturized this. I did use mini phyllo tart shells, but didn't like them. Next time I would just make the same crust in my mini muffin pans. Great for a holiday dessert tray with mini cupcakes,brownie bites,fudge and pecan tassies.
    Enjoy,
    Michelle

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Multi - Layer Chocolate Dessert~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ingredients:
    Crust:
    2 sticks butter
    2 cups flour
    1 cup chopped walnuts
    Pie:
    1 small cool whip
    1 large cool whip
    1- 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
    1 cup powdered sugar
    2 pkgs. regular chocolate pudding (can use instant,I prefer the kind you have to cook)
    3 cups milk
    1 cup chopped walnuts
    semi sweet chocolate curls/shavings for garnish (optional)
    Directions:
    Crust:
    Smooth softened butter and flour together. Add nuts. Spread on bottom of 9 X 13 pan. Bake @ 20 minutes in a 350° oven. Remove from oven and let cool.
    Next Layer:
    Combine 1 small cool whip, 1: 8 oz. cream cheese, and 1 cup powdered sugar. Mix well & chill.
    Next Layer:
    Cook 2 pkgs. of regular chocolate pudding using only 3 cups of milk. (3 cups milk if using instant too.) Place piece of wax paper over top & cool at room temp, then chill.
    Assembly:
    Place cream cheese/sugar layer on crumb crust and spread evenly.
    Next layer with pudding.
    Final Layer:
    Top with 1 large cool whip and spread evenly. Sprinkle with additional 1 cup chopped walnuts. Garnish with chocolate shavings/curly and chill thoroughly.
    Note when making grocery list that there are 2 cups walnuts total and 2 cool whips, 1 lrg. and 1 small.
              Re: Multi Layer Chocolate Dessert
              This is a VERY versatile dessert. I use macadamia nuts in the crust. And the flavors of pudding can be changed. Makes a pretty presentation.
                Thank you again mdt333. I am going to make it this weekend and probably for Thanksgiving. It sounds so good and eye appealing for a dinner table.
                      Re: Multi Layer Chocolate Dessert:Added pic of mini version
                      click on this and copy and paste and it will take you to the pic in my myspace. These are the tarts I made in the phyllo tarts that I did not like, they were too dry. Next time I will make the crust in the pan, it will be just fine. These were delicious though, you can't stop at one either but great for a walking around party.
                        It is very versatile.
                        And to this chocolate version, add 1 can of Cherry Pie Filling for a Chocolate-Cherry Dessert.
                        Wow!
                        So good!
                        Pineapple Delight is a big hit at office parties, using large drained crushed Pineapple and Vanilla Pudding instead of Chocolate.
                        Also yummy!!!!!!!
                        You can use Peach too! Very tasty!!!!!!!
                        Change up the crust, the nuts, the pudding, the fruit..........
                        Goes on & on & on..........
                              Around here it's called Chocolate Sin. It's really good, no matter what it's called.
